The Best Ones Get Away
Posted on August 10, 2008
Now I’m a sports fan in Wisconsin and, as such, have been force-fed the whole Brett Favre thing for the last couple months. My personal leanings were primarily in support of the management and secondarily a desire to get the damn thing over with. So when said damn thing did finally end with a trade to the New York Jets, I felt relieved and elated. I also felt the need to wash my hands of the whole debacle by passing on my love for the quarterback to a Jets fan in a nice e-mail. Thing is, I only know one Jets fan… musician/voice actor/hidden Mole clue Eric Stuart.

This… Is… Jeopardy
Posted on April 12, 2008
Up here in Wisconsin, we don’t usually get to see much of Hollywood and how things work. Last month, of course, we had the notable exception of the major movie set a mile away from where I work. But as it was downtown, not designed for filming before an audience and certainly not worth mixing it up with a legion of Johnny Depp fans (and judging by the hordes that descended upon the set pictures I posted, they are not a force to be messed with), I didn’t see any of the actual filming. Enter Jeopardy.

Photos: Set of “Public Enemies”
Posted on March 15, 2008
Okay, so I find out this week that they’re apparently filming part of the new Johnny Depp movie in the town where I just so happen to work. Seems they’re taking the main intersection and sending the whole thing back to the 1930’s. Given the likelihood that this would be something completely awesome, I checked it out yesterday after work.
Thank God I brought my camera.
Enjoy!

Anime Milwaukee Recap
Posted on March 13, 2008
Just a quick rundown of the events of Anime Milwaukee. It wasn’t very photogenic, so I didn’t take any pictures, but I can’t say stuff didn’t happen. Perhaps not the madcap stuff you’re used to in recaps, but you get the idea.

Chrono Brigade
Posted on February 14, 2008
I’m planning on doing a Haruhi AMV for No Brand and Iowa. Maybe ACen too… that field’s going to be loaded with Haruhi and I’m not sure if I want to be part of the madness. Granted I’m doing a drama video that is more “Kyon schlepping heaters in the rain” than “Haruhi leads merry band on misadventures.” But still… Skittles was just the beginning. Either way- trendy or not I’m making it and that involves watching it again to log scenes. Only this time, I’m watching it in chronological order.

Sharing the ESB Love
Posted on January 13, 2008
Everybody has a couple bands they really get behind- where promotion both subtle and overt becomes a priority in the right situation. In this regard, music selection during car trips is a delicate art. You have to balance what your passengers would like, what each album says of you, and the appropriateness of the situation. Even if the entire car loves artsy acoustic albums, they’re not great for rush hour traffic downtown.

Eyeshield: Ep. 1… and 2… and part of 3…
Posted on December 18, 2007
The long awaited premiere of the Eyeshield dub is up now. As you may have gathered, I’m a bit of a fan of the series, so I thought I’d weight in on the first episodes (or the first 2.5 as the case may be). Of course, since I’m on the record on other forums defending the intent of the original One Piece dub, I must be careful lest I be called a hypocrite. That should make you feel pretty uneasy right there.

Voice Directing Is Hard
Posted on November 12, 2007
Now that I have all the necessary equipment and the proper set-up for the MST audiobook, I’ve spent the last couple weekends playing around, doing some test recordings and such. Going in, I knew that one of the most fun and challenging things about this was the prospect of doing character voices. I’ve got some voice acting expertise, granted it’s limited to a friend’s radio drama (where my character had ten lines, then got shot). That and the narration has been as advertised- fun and challenging. The big migraine is in the direction.

Yep, I finally done it. After too much time in my calm, reclusive bubble, I have finally caved in and agreed to join the rest of reality by getting a Myspace page.

Geek.kon- Expect Anything
Posted on October 6, 2007
I know I’ve mentioned it on the mailing list, but this is the first time I’ve stated on the site that I’m going to the inaugural Geek.kon in Madison this weekend (yeah, I know I should post more). It’s a free sci-fi/anime/general geekdom convention on the UW campus (sorry- UW-Madison; can’t betray my small state school roots). Boasting of my decade of expertise, I volunteered to run the fanfic panel (as I basically created this site to stash my script format stuff, the fact that I’m averaging 2,500 visits a month means I must be doing something right). It was a sweet deal- got my name and site on the guest list and everything. Same page as Chad Vader- woot! The planning seems sound and the pre-reg list suggests an attendance higher than No Brand Con. But as I sit here, waiting for Jasmine and crew to arrive later tonight (I’m housing about eight people this weekend), I have to wonder- it’s still a first-year convention. What can we really expect?
