Pokéball Run

Episode Six

(Tom Wallace appears in the studio.)
Tom: Welcome to Pokéball Run- still no casualties, only one injury! A wild leg four featured rappelling, tackling, and pretty much everything but a team getting eliminated. But to make it up for you, we’ll eliminate three in this episode. One now… two later, when we finally crown a champion. Let’s take a look at the results.

(Screen displays Jessie G’s rappel.)
Tom: Like something out of some cheap sports movie, everyone’s favorite losers Team Rocket finally won big as Jessie G’s spirit guides Triple J to victory.

(Display The Angels waiting through traffic.)
Tom: Somehow managing to alternate between active and under-the-radar, The Angels choose the latter this leg, and wind up in second place.

(Display TK tackling Izzy out of the yellow car’s path.)
Tom: Takaishi with the sack! It’ll be third and a mile for Hope & Plight this time.

(Display Izzy being wheeled off on a stretcher.)
Tom: And bringing up the rear is Brains & Blondes, who suffer a huge setback in the form of Izzy’s separated shoulder. Will they be able to play on? Let’s just find out ourselves as we go back down to Las Vegas, Nevada, and the beginning of the end for this race.

(Back at the hotel/casino, a car pulls into the parking lot. Manny, Mihoshi, Rika, and Izzy, now with his right arm in a sling, silently get out.)
Manny: So basically, we will allow you to continue, but we aren’t going to let up on the rules because of the situation. You will still need to go against Hope & Plight in a Roadkill Challenge, and you’ll have to go through everything just like the other teams.

(The four head in, with Izzy and Rika ahead. By now, most of the other teams have gone outside to see the situation. Izzy and Rika walk past them, oblivious.)
Kari: So what’s wrong?

Yolei: Are you going to be okay?

(Izzy and Rika go inside. Those left with questions unanswered… immediately turned around to talk to Mihoshi. Even Mihoshi is dead serious.)
Mimi: So how bad is his shoulder?

Jessie G: Is he going to have to drop out?

Mihoshi: Now, now… he has a separated shoulder. That’s all we know right now. We’re going to have a team meeting and we need our privacy. Show’s over… nothing to see here!

(Mihoshi goes inside.)
Mimi: Wow… she really is a cop.

(Inside the B&B Bedroom, Izzy, Rika, and Mihoshi are all seated, very seriously.)
Izzy: That’s how I feel. It’s tough for me to say it, but it’s time I looked at this logically. I don’t know what they have in store for us tomorrow, and I don’t want to aggravate my shoulder any further. But the decision is yours. If you want to keep going, I suppose I can go along with it.

Rika: How can we just quit now? I mean, if we can survive this, we can get through anything. I don’t want to give up yet. I don’t want this shoulder of yours to go unpunished.

Izzy: What do you mean? It was an accident. If it’s anybody’s fault, it’s my own for not looking into it sooner.

Rika: But…

Mihoshi: It’s going to be hard to win at this rate. We’d still have to beat the yellow team in that challenge… and then what?

Rika: We can fight through this…

Izzy: I’m not saying we couldn’t. But I can’t do anything in this condition. I can’t drive, I can’t write, I’d have a heck of a time trying to use a computer… or even folding a map.

Mihoshi: Don’t tell me I’d have to drive through Los Angeles!

Izzy: Yes you would. Rika, I’m not going to force you to do anything. It’s your call.

(They hear a knock on the door. Mihoshi goes to answer. It’s a slightly nervous TK.)
TK: Hey, Mihoshi, I really need to talk to Izzy about this…

Mihoshi: I’m sorry- we’re having a team meeting- now’s not a good time.

Izzy: Mihoshi, who is it?

Mihoshi: It’s TK.

Izzy: It’s okay… let him in. I want to talk to him about this too.

(TK is let in. Mihoshi closes the door.)

(The next day. Manny now presiding over everything, and all twelve are gathered in the parking lot.)
Manny: Okay, in light of Izzy’s unfortunate mishap, we have been forced to delay the Roadkill Challenge until this morning. And I was to assume that everything would continue as normal.

(Shot of Kari, looking a bit depressed.)
Manny: However… it has recently come to my attention that due to the injury, Brains & Blondes have taken it upon themselves, and have mutually agreed to forfeit the Roadkill Challenge to Hope & Plight.

(Kari looks up, a bit shocked.)
Manny: I understand that this was a difficult decision, and that they did confer with Hope & Plight about the manner. So with that, we can consider this their honorable discharge. We will be starting the next leg in a little over an hour, so you may take this time to say your farewells.

(TK puts a hand on Izzy’s good shoulder.)
TK: You’re sure this is what you want?

Izzy: Yeah… I just want to go home and get healthy. Good luck with the final leg

TK: I guess. I just can’t help but feel responsible for all this.

Izzy: Well, we already talked about this. I’ll get better. Just don’t let all this trouble you.

(TK walks off to talk to Mihoshi and Rika. Kari gives him a quick hug.)

Kari: I can’t believe you’re just leaving.

Izzy: I don’t want this to get any worse than it already is. (smiling) Besides, it would be embarrassing if I decided to keep playing, and then lost to you guys right away!

Kari: Right… Well, see ya.

(It’s Rika’s turn. She just stares at Izzy for a bit, not sure what to do.)
Rika: I guess… this is goodbye.

Izzy: Yeah… it was fun while it lasted.

(Rika looks down. Izzy hugs her quickly. She keeps looking down.)
Rika: (solemn) Big brother…

(Izzy smiles.)
Izzy: Baby sister.

(Rika backs away, pissed.)
Rika: Oh no… none of that "baby" crap! I’m no baby, you got that?

Izzy: Uh… okay… little sister?

(Rika sighs)
Rika: I guess that works.

(Off to the side, Mihoshi is crying, sad to be out of the race.)
Mihoshi: Goodbye, everybody! I’m going to miss you all!

Rika: (to Izzy) I suppose Mihoshi’s the air-headed older sister…

Izzy: Heh… for every Kari… there’s a Jun.

Rika: I suppose it is kind of nice. For somebody to become independent, powerful, to go wherever life may take them. To be the best, rising above the others. And yet, if they were to ever need someone to turn to, if they ever needed somebody to be there for them… they can always go back to being a little sister. I’m starting to wish I had that luxury.

Leg Five- Day Nine
(The nine remaining gather on top of the roof. There are three easels for each team, with a stack of cards on nearby tables.)
Manny: Okay, here we go. From this point forward, it’s a race to the finish line. But first- the obligatory Jumpstart Challenge. And this one is a doozy. The objective here is to put your car’s license plate number on the easel in front of you. Each stack of cards contains all the letters and numbers you’ll need. I’ll be checking in at regular intervals. Once you have the number, you may take off. Ready? You may begin.

(The three teams go at it. Neither get it on the first try.)

Nakago: As Shogun of Kutou country, I understand the importance of details; they are crucial when plotting the demise of a neighboring country… but license plate numbers?

(Shinji is holding up a card.)
Shinji: Is this supposed to be an "M" or a "W?"

Mimi: I don’t remember our car having either of them.

Yolei: I thought the car had an V, can you like partially cover the W up with another card?

Mimi: There are so many possibilities, it’s really hard to figure out which one’s really yours… especially when you have no idea where to start!

(Kari, TK, and Nakago are working at it. Nakago offers his perspective once in awhile, but generally remains quiet.)
TK: Manny! Is this it?

Manny: Yes, it is: You are free to head out.

TK: Good work, Kari. Let’s go!

(TK, Kari, and Nakago rush inside to catch the elevator.)
Manny: (VO) While Hope & Plight begin descending the fifty floors of this building, the others seem to be having trouble.

(Triple J is working on it.)
James: How about "867-5309?"

Jessie G: That’s a song, stupid!

James: I know, it gets stuck in my head a lot. Should we try it?

Jessie: Considering that the number is only six places long and that we have neither an eight, seven, three, or nine… I wouldn’t.

James: No… I meant singing it!

(Inside, TK has hit the elevator button, and is patiently waiting for one of the two elevators to arrive.)
Kari: Where are they?

TK: Um… one’s on the lobby… the other’s in the basement.

Kari: We need a sabotage…

Nakago: I’d usually be the one saying that, but you two want me to play nice, so I suppose I can’t suggest that we block the others from getting here.

(TK and Kari look at each other, then turn to Nakago.)
TK/Kari: That works.

TK: But how do we do that?

Kari: C’mon, TK, haven’t you ever seen Blues Brothers?

(Kari rushes down the hall, and picks up a couple chairs, she runs back and throws them in the middle of the hallway.)
Kari: We’ll need more than this!

(TK goes off to help her. They bring in a few more chairs, some signs, and a lamp, throw them on the pile, and continue.)
TK: I think we need even more.

Kari: Where’s the elevator?

Nakago: Tenth floor.

Kari: We got time… there’s a lounge down this way!!

TK: I’m right behind you!!

(The Angels aren’t getting any nearer to their number. Neither are Triple J, who obviously have a number upside down. Meanwhile, back in the hall, the barricade has grown by a considerable portion. To top things off, Kari is dragging in a couch from the lounge. She’s having trouble with it. Nakago comes in and helps her out. He effortlessly picks up the couch, and puts it on the top of the pile, effectively blocking the entire hall.)
TK: It’s almost here.

(Kari and Nakago head for the elevator.)
Nakago: One more thing…

(Nakago holds his hands out in front of the elevator.)
Nakago: I’m going to put a psychic barrier in front of the elevator. They won’t be able to get through this.

Kari: Wait… is this one of those barriers that hurts people?

Nakago: It’s not even a fourth of my capability. It will only hurt if they run into it repeatedly like a bunch of idiots.

(The elevator arrives. TK and Kari get on. Nakago joins them.)
TK: Um… I guess- but just this once!

Kari: With this, we should just be able to cruise to a win!

(The Angels finally get their number and head inside, to be greeted by the wall of furniture.)

Yolei: I bet Nakago’s behind this…

Mimi: Well, let’s get started…

(Mimi reaches up and grabs the legs of the couch. She yanks hard on it.)
Mimi: Shinji… catch!

(The couch falls, Shinji barely gets out of the way. Yolei starts working on the other stuff in the barrier. Meanwhile, Shinji manages to use the couch to hoist himself through the spot where the couch used to be, and manages to get on the other side. He reaches around and extends a hand through the gap.)
Shinji: C’mon!

(Meanwhile, back at the license plate thing.)
James: How about this one?

Manny: Nope…

(Shinji helps Yolei get to the other side. With all three across the barrier, they all run to the elevator… and crash into the second barrier. All three fall to the floor after the collision. Yolei stands up quickly, and tests the invisible barrier.)
Yolei: Man… how many barriers do they have?

Mimi: Who cares, let’s walk down one floor and catch the elevator there.

(Yolei and Shinji nod, and they go down a different hall to the stairs.)

(TK, Kari, and Nakago run out of the building and head to their car. They quickly take off. Caption: "Hope & Plight- First Place")
Manny: (VO) And Hope & Plight are the first on the road. But how long will their barricade delay the others?

(Up on top, Triple J finally gets it. They rush inside, and are stopped by the barricade.)
Jessie G: Jeez… this looks like something you two would throw together.

Jessie: Yeah… I bet Mimi’s behind this.

James: Hey, we can get through it.

(The three rear back, and plow through the blockade.)

(To contrast this, The Angels are patiently sitting on an elevator, listening to bad muzak. It’s a very calm scenario.)

(Up on top, Jessie and James are running into Nakago’s barrier repeatedly like a bunch of idiots.)
Jessie/James: Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Jessie G: Give it up, we’ll have to find another way around. C’mon!

(They head to the stairs. Jessie G. takes the lead, and starts running down the stairs at a furious pace.)

(Shot of The Angels, running towards their car. They take off. Caption: "The Angels- Second Place")
Manny: (VO) And The Angels are off… but how far behind is Triple J?

(Jessie G. is still running ferociously down the stairs. She makes it all the way to the lobby. She runs over… to see Jessie and James waiting for her.)
James: Took you long enough.

Jessie: You know, you could have just taken the elevator on the 49th floor.

James: There are some advantages to slacking off, you know.

Jessie G: Uh… I guess.

(They run out and get in their car. Caption: "Triple J- Third Place")

(In the studio, with Tom. His monitor displays the route from Vegas to L.A.)
Tom: All three teams are on the road, bound for the busy highways of Los Angeles. We have prepared the three drivers on each team- Nakago, Shinji, and Jessie Gurtland, for the traffic in Los Angeles, but it is very possible that the race could come down to who handles it the best. To be specific, each team is headed for Venice Beach, right on the Pacific Ocean, so good navigation will be essential. At the heart of this is a decision that each team must make, as two major highways both lead to their destination. Which is better? Each team must decide for themselves.

(In the yellow car, TK and Kari are talking it over.)
TK: Going north seems like the shortest way… it looks easier.

Kari: Yeah… a little too easier. I’m suspicious.

TK: Yeah. I think they’re trying to make us take the north route, when the south one is some sort of secret shortcut.

Kari: Exactly. So we should go South?

Nakago: But what if that’s what they want you to deduce?

TK/Kari: Oh yeah…

TK: So we should go North!

Kari: But wait a second… the sign marker for the south route is a little bit smaller than the one for the north route.

TK: Are they trying to hide something from us?

Kari: But they’re smart- they’d expect us to find it.

TK: Or would they? If the sign is small, and the exit is on the left lane...

Nakago: Okay, they’re definitely hiding something from us. They saying that there is something special on the left side.

TK/Kari/Nakago: But is it a trap??

(Overhead shot of the car.)
Mike: (VO) To be honest, the best route to take depends on certain individual characteristics such as the a team’s driving style, knowledge of the roads, and traffic conditions... not the size of the roadsigns. But despite the paranoia facing Hope & Plight, they come to an educated decision…

Kari: (VO) Scissors cuts paper! South it is!

(Inside the Angels car, Shinji is struggling through traffic. Mimi and Yolei are both looking through a map, trying to determine the best route.)
Yolei: Well, the north route is an interstate, and the south route is a state highway. The interstate sounds faster.

Mimi: Yeah, but we aren’t going to a different state. We are in Californ-i-a, we should be taking a Californ-i-a state highway.

Yolei: Well, yeah, but…

Shinji: Look, I really need to concentrate here, I’m just going to stay on this road if it’s the same to you.

Yolei: That’s the north route, I love how you always side with me!

(Overhead shot of the pink car taking the north route.)
Manny: (VO) And The Angels go north on the interstate. Whether this was due to an actual decision or Mimi and Yolei’s indecisiveness… the world may never know.

(Right behind them, the blue car sees the Angels continue along the north route.)
Jessie: The twerps are going north.

James: Let’s tail them!

Jessie G: No. We’re doing this our way.

James: Actually, I think that the north way is faster anyway.

Jessie G: I said! We’re doing this our way!

(They head along the south route.)

(In the yellow car, Nakago is driving very aggressively.)
Kari: Hey, isn’t this a bit reckless?

TK: Yeah- remember what we talked about!

Nakago: Fine, fine…

(Nakago slows down.)
Nakago: I’ll slow it down to 55. Happy?

Kari: Yes, thank you.

(A car comes up, passing Nakago on the right side.)
Driver: (OS) Hey, speed up or get off, slowpoke!

(He whizzes past.)
Nakago: TK?

TK: Okay, okay, but only because we’re in Los Angeles.

(Nakago takes off at a much, much faster speed.)

(In the pink car, Shinji is still very nervous.)
Yolei: C’mon Shinji, you have to be aggressive! Go with the flow!

Shinji: Shh! This is really making me nervous…

Mimi: Lighten up. You can do this. No problem!

Shinji: Easy for you to say… now just let me concentrate.

(Yolei smiles.)
Yolei: Hey Mimi… maybe we should start calling ourselves "Shinji’s Angels."

(Shinji perks up and looks at Yolei. She continues smiling. He smiles briefly.)
Shinji: Let’s do this.

Mimi: All right!!

(Shot of a map of Los Angeles, and where all three cars are located relative to each other. A pink dot on the north route, is relatively even with the yellow dot on the south route, with the blue dot, also south, just behind yellow.)
Tom: (VO) Nearing fifteen miles left, and all the teams are pretty even with each other. It’ll all come down to navigating the local roads… and of course, the final challenge.

(In the blue car, Jessie G. is swerving frantically through traffic. Jessie and James are holding on for dear life.)
Jessie/James: We’re gonna die, we’re gonna die, we’re gonna die!

(In the yellow car, Nakago is driving extremely aggressively, changing lanes often. TK and Kari are being thrown as far as their seat belts will allow.)

Kari: (nervous) You have that protective chi around the car right?

Nakago: Oh, now you’re grateful for my dark magic, huh?

(In the pink car, Shinji is now driving pretty aggressively… with Mimi and Yolei enjoying every minute of it. They’re stringing him along and giving him confidence by singing the Evangelion theme song. Great song if you haven’t heard it!)

Mimi/Yolei: (singing) Kono sora wo daite kagayaku, shounen yo shinwa ni nare!…

(Overhead shot of the yellow car exiting the freeway.)
Manny: (VO) As the teams get off the freeway, Hope & Plight and The Angels are neck-and-neck, with Triple J falling behind, but not by much. When the teams arrive at Venice Beach, they’ll be greeted with the final challenge, which will take them to the finish line. Let’s go to Mike with the details.

(Mike is standing in front of three pedicabs, bikes towing seats.)
Mike: We have a doozy of a final challenge, and here are the details- one member from each team will have to pedal a pedi cab carrying the other two members. They have to bike a quarter-mile down the boardwalk, which is a lot harder than it sounds. Then, all three team members must run, on foot, to a flag somewhere on the beach, where a baton for each three teams is located. All three team members must carry the baton across the finish line. Whoever crosses first- wins it all.

(Inside the pink car, Yolei is overseeing Mimi as she’s navigating.)
Mimi: (VO) I haven’t been the best navigator before, but this is do-or-die time. They need me here, and I have to step up.

Shinji: So which way do we go?

Mimi: Make a right here.

Yolei: And after that, go for three blocks, then make a left on Rose Street.

Mimi: Yep! We got this, I can feel it!

(Kari is telling Nakago which route to take. He’s listening intently.)
Kari: (VO) We’ve got to pull it together here. In a way, we all sacrificed a lot, probably too much for a game like this. But it would be great if we could come away from all of this on top.

TK: Wait… I think we missed that street.

Kari: Darn.

Nakago: Can I turn on the next one…

Kari: Let me see… yes. I’ll have to figure out which way’s the shortest from there, but turn on the next street.

(The Angels are the first to pull into Venice Beach. Mike runs up to them and explains the rules.)
Mimi: So who should drive?

Shinji: I’m… I’ve done enough driving for once.

Yolei: I’ll do it.

Mimi: You sure?

Yolei: You and Shinji have been doing it the whole trip. It’s my turn to drive!

(The Angels have their helmets strapped on and Yolei takes off. Mimi quietly slips off her shoes and socks and tosses them back to Mike. Shinji looks at her.)
Mimi: Gotta be prepared for the next part too!

(Shots of the Angels riding.)
Yolei: (VO) It seems like with Shinji doing most of the driving, and Mimi doing the sabotaging, this is the best way for me to participate. After all, I do think I’d be the best one for this.

(Behind them, Hope & Plight are putting on helmets.)
TK: Ready Nakago?

Nakago: Yes.

(Nakago mounts the bike, but doesn’t pedal it.)
Kari: What’s wrong?

Nakago: I just realized… I’m from Ancient China, I don’t know how to use one of these.

TK: You don’t?

Nakago: Oh well… it can’t be that much harder than driving…

(Nakago starts to pedal. Ahead of them, Mimi and Shinji are watching behind them.)
Yolei: Anyone behind us?

Mimi: Blondie is, but he’s just starting.

Shinji: We’ll let you know if he gets close.

Yolei: Better yet- I just won’t let that happen!

(Yolei continues to pedal hard.)

(In the parking lot, Triple J is pulling in.)
Mike: (VO) And a ways behind is Triple J, who had a rough time navigating the roads to get here. With Yolei almost three-fourths of the way done and Nakago nearing the halfway point, they’ll have to play catch up.

(The three get out, and notice the other two cars.)
Jessie G: Shoot.

Jessie: We aren’t done yet.

James: Let’s show these twerps who’s boss!

(Mike explains the final challenge. Jessie G instantly perks up.)
Jessie G: Jessie. James. This one’s almost in the bag.

(Jessie G. and Team Rocket grab helmets. Jessie G. manages to get a couple good warm-up stretches in quickly. Jessie and James hop in the cab, and Jessie G. hops on the bike and immediately takes off, just as fast, if not faster, as an average person would ride without passengers.)

Jessie G: This is it! This is what it’s all about! It’s my game! I’ve ran long-distance triathlons before, and this is exactly the kind of challenge that can put us back in the game.

(However, the Angels are nearing the end of the pedi cab portion. Yolei is obviously going all-out.)
Mimi: Almost there. Got it!

Shinji: Let’s go.

(Mimi and Shinji get out and start running off. Yolei does too, but she is clearly exhausted, falling behind the two.)

(As Nakago is starting to get the hang of it, and is biking at a decent pace, TK and Kari act as rear-view mirrors.)
TK: Triple J’s coming up fast.

Nakago: Okay, just help me block their way.

(Jessie G. is coming up, going much faster than Nakago.)
Kari: Swerve right!

(Nakago does, Jessie G. is forced to slow down. She tries going left.)
TK: Left!

(They keep this up for a good while, until they near the end.)
Kari: Okay… duke right, go left!

(Nakago fakes to the right, then swerves left, outwitting Jessie G. She smiles.)

Jessie G: Right!

(Nakago goes right. Jessie G. goes left and passes them easily.)

(On the beach, Mimi sees the flag. Shinji’s next to her.)
Mimi: There it is!

(Mimi turns around. Yolei, obviously exhausted, is walking very slowly, not able to take much more.)
Mimi: Yolei, come on!

(Yolei is too short of breath to reply. Shinji runs back to Yolei, and tries to help her continue. Despite the effort, Shinji can’t manage it very far. Yolei starts to slump forward, when she’s caught by Mimi.)
Shinji: Let’s just carry her.

Mimi: Right.

(Shinji and Mimi pick Yolei up, and start jogging to the finish line.)

(Jessie G. gets off the bike, as do Jessie and James. The three start a mad dash for the finish line. Jessie G. isn’t tired a bit. Nakago, TK, and Kari are right behind. Nakago is only slightly winded, and the three follow.)
Nakago: I hate walking on sand.

(The three run as fast as they can along the beach, but they ain’t a match for Jessie G.)

(Jessie G. is running at her pace, but slows down a bit to let Jessie and James, who are falling a bit behind, catch up. They do, and they continue together.)
Jessie G: (VO) Despite what I may have thought when I first met them, both Jessie and James have earned my respect in this race. And I really hope that I can help them see the light, and hopefully set them on the road to success. Because they have the potential to do it… they just have to find it first.

(At the flag, Mimi and Shinji set Yolei down and pick up a large, pink baton. Shinji turns around and sees Triple J getting closer.)
Shinji: They’re right behind us.

Mimi: Yolei? Can you make it?

Yolei: Yeah… I think so… only one way to find out!

(She grabs the baton, as does Mimi and Shinji, and they start walking briskly towards the finish line, where Manny is waiting.)

(Behind all this, TK, Kari, and Nakago see the flag, and The Angels heading towards the finish line.)
TK: Shoot.

Kari: It’s going to be hard to catch up.

(Nakago continues on.)
Nakago: (cynical) Oh. Well.

TK: I suppose…

Kari: Yep!

(TK and Kari continue.)

(Meanwhile, it’s a serious race, as Triple J is getting very close to the baton.)
Shinji: We won’t make it at this pace.

Mimi: We’re going to have to run. Can you do it Yolei?

Yolei: I think so… I don’t care. Let’s do it.

(They start jogging towards the finish. Behind them, Triple J grabs their baton and starts running after them, gaining on the Angels.)
Shinji: Faster! We can do this!

Mimi: C’mon Yolei!

(Yolei, Mimi and Shinji start running quickly.)
Yolei: I’m gonna pass out later…

Mimi: That’s fine, let’s just cross the finish line!

(The Angels run very fast, but Triple J is clearly faster and gaining quickly. It’s very close as they cross the finish line, but Yolei puts forth the extra effort, and Shinji and Mimi follow suit, and they cross the finish line seconds before Triple J does.)
Manny: And The Angels have won the Pokéball Run!!

(Yolei immediately collapses on the ground. Jessie G. looks quite disappointed, and bends down, not sure how to react. But first- the victors. Mimi hugs Shinji, throwing him around like a rag doll. He’s jolted a lot by it… but you know he likes it. Yolei’s still on the ground, and Mimi and Shinji go down to see if she’s okay. She’s just tired, and very ecstatic. However, Jessie G. is sitting on the sand, watching the ocean, unsure of how to react.)
Jessie G: I lost. I had such a good feeling about this too.

(Jessie and James approach her.)
Jessie: You okay?

James: Like I said, we never win stuff like this.

Jessie G: That’s why I’m a bit disappointed. I wanted to show you what it was like to taste victory. I wanted to win as well. I… wanted to see the light and share it with you.

Jessie: The… light?

James: Well… if you’re looking for the light, Kari’s waaaay behind us.

Jessie: We beat them good!

James: Second’s fine by us, as long as we beat the goodie-goods.

(Jessie G. turns around, to see Hope & Plight finishing in third place. She smiles.)
Jessie G: I suppose.

(Triple J is being interviewed on the beach.)
Jessie G: I guess I shouldn’t dwell too much on it. Although I was set on winning, there’s no way to get a rematch. I had great teammates, and all-in-all, it was a blast. One of the most fun things I’ve done in my life, and I can’t think of anything I would have done differently.

James: Except maybe remembering our license plate number!

Jessie G: Yeah, that’s true.

(Kari and TK are congratulating Mimi and Yolei.)
Kari: Good work, you two.

Mimi: Thanks, but we couldn’t have done it without our driver… where’d he run off to?

(Shinji is quietly and contently observing the scene, Yolei grabs him.)
Yolei: Get over here you!

Shinji: Oh, right.

Yolei: We’re a team, we gotta stick together.

Mimi: We’re the winners, we have to do photo ops and stuff.

Shinji: I just can’t believe we actually won.

Yolei: Sure… Shinji’s Angels will always pull through.

(Kari pulls out her camera.)
Kari: I have to get a picture of you three quick. This is too fun to forget.

(Kari gets the camera ready.)
Kari: Smile!

(Mimi and Yolei both kiss Shinji on the cheek simultaneously as Kari takes the picture.)
TK: Well, Shinji definitely won’t forget this.

(Manny goes on the scene and calls for everybody’s attention.)
Manny: Okay, okay. This was a lot of fun, and before we close things out, we’re going to have our little awards ceremony. We’ve got the medals and trophy… but what we don’t have is an audience.

(Manny reaches for his cell phone.)
Manny: Mike, we’re ready for you.

Mike: (VO) Roger.

(Mike is walking down the boardwalk.)
Mike: If we’re going to end this, we’ve got to do this right. C’mon over here, they’re ready.

(Yes, the other nine contestants- Ash, Davis, a goggles-laden Ruri, Brock, Gary, Akane, a crippled Izzy, Rika, and Mihoshi, are waiting eagerly nearby, and start heading down the beach to greet the "upper half." Most get there without problems. Brock, on the other hand…)
Brock: Wow… Venice Beach… the sand, the surf, the string bikinis…

(Akane and Gary rush in from either side and grab him by the ears.)
Gary: You just never learn.

Akane: Don’t make us get the blindfold.

(Ruri and Ash are watching this.)
Ruri: Idiots…

Ash: Actually, Brock’s one of the wisest people I know. I couldn’t have gotten anywhere without his guidance.

(Ruri looks up at him.)
Ash: You’re right… idiots… so many idiots.

(Davis joins them.)
Davis: Of course, when you think about it- everybody’s an idiot sometimes, right?

Ruri: Bingo.

Ash: Even you?

Ruri: Even me.

Ash: Even somebody like say… Izzy?

(Izzy shows up next to them, his arm still in a sling.)

Izzy: Especially Izzy. I think I’m going to leave the head honcho action hero job to professionals like you two and Tai.

Ash: Great, now let’s go see who actually won this…

(At the finish line, Akane is the first to greet the winners with a handshake, with the others soon to follow.)
Akane: Great job, I had a feeling about you guys.

Gary: Yeah, anybody who can defeat me must be bound for stardom.

(Brock shakes Yolei’s hand very hard.)
Brock: It’s what I said all along, a great victory for great girls. Could I get some phone numbers from you two while we’re unified again?

(As Akane drop-kicks Brock into the Pacific, Davis is congratulating Triple J, with Ash watching nervously.)
Davis: Good job, maybe you can stop being bad guys now.

Jessie G: Whatever way they live their life is fine with me, as long as they no longer consider themselves losers.

James: Jessie number two is right!

Jessie: With our newly-found sense of confidence, we’ll be able to steal Pikachu in no time!

(Jessie G. frowns.)
Jessie G: Steal what?

Jessie: (pointing at Ash) That little twerp’s Pokémon.

James: We’ve been trying to do it for three years.

Jessie G: (unsure of them) Um… oh… good luck!

(Ash leans in and whispers to Jessie G.)
Ash: Frankly, I liked them better as losers.

Jessie G: Unfortunately I’m only interested in them not being losers. Them not being bad guys or them actually having a worthy goal is none of my damn business.

Ash: (sarcastic) Oh, great, thanks a bunch Jess.

Jessie G: (threatening) You wanna try me, shrimp?

(Ash backs away.)
Ash: No, no… carry on!

(Manny gathers everybody around. There’s a table set up with medals and a trophy.)
Manny: Okay, time for the official crowning of the champions. In third place- successfully getting through this without killing, raping, or nagging anybody about all the goodness in everybody’s hearts- TK, Kari, and Nakago- Hope & Plight!

(TK and Kari happily receive medals. Nakago is not smiling, but follows suit passively. Everybody applauds, even though Izzy has a slight problem pulling it off.)
Mike: In second place- you can’t help but love ‘em- Two Jessies and a James- Triple J!

(All three happily get their medals to applause.)
Jessie G: Seriously, this is the best I’ve ever felt after losing. I’m surprised.

Manny: And in first place, the plotted, they planned, they got lost in Jersey but they made it all the way to win this year’s Pokéball Run- Mimi Tachikawa, Yolei Inoue, and Shinji Ikari- The An… wait… sorry- Shinji’s Angels!

(All three receive medals. Yolei is handed the trophy. She and Mimi hold it high, and Shinji puts a hand on it as well. It’s a great sight, as they all applaud them. This image is on Tom’s monitor as he closes things out.)
Tom: And there you have it. Mimi, Yolei, and Shinji come out of it on top- marking the first time in history that any team named the Angels won a major championship in California. It was wild, it was crazy, and now it’s over. On behalf of Manny Edwards and Mike Storch, I’m Tom Wallace reminding you to check in for our next production- "The Mole 2: Anime Edition." Until then, drive safely, and remember to never pick up any strangers named Michael. Good night.

(Pan up, as the set fades to black.)
