Posted concurrently with the original Survivor in Borneo, this story is considered to be the first "reality port" and mother to the genre. This story introduced characteristics such as the "tribal rivalry" element, the author serving as host, the use of Side Stories to provide a behind-the-scenes look at eliminated contestants, and the approach of concentrating on social bonds over strategy. These elements can be found in many future reality ports. Star's Survivor skyrocketed in popularity when posted on ff.net and spawned four official sequels and countless unofficial knockoffs.
