Here is the first episode of the girls’ edition of Roomies! Today, the girls move into the mansion in Readington. Note that this is the first of two episodes that will be released today. For the first three weeks, two new episodes will air back-to-back. After that, it will be one new episode a week. That may change again towards the end, but I have yet to decide the final schedule. A quick reminder... the guys’ edition premieres tomorrow. It will follow the same schedule as the girls’ edition. For a little information of why I did all of this, don’t forget to check out the “Roomies Analysis” show’s first episode, if you haven’t yet. It will be available only on Fanfiction.net, so you’ll have to go there to see it. Don’t forget to review! E-mail me at jgg121@yahoo.com with your comments, suggestions, or constructive criticisms. No flames! I will not accept them! If you’re a member of Fanfiction.net, you can also review the story there. One more thing... you, the readers, control which girl and which boy will win the grand prize at the end. Voting for the girls begins today and then tomorrow for the boys, right after the first episode is posted. A cutoff date has not been decided upon yet, but expect it to be around the time that tenth episode is released. Please, especially reviewers at Fanfiction.net, do not put your choice for the two winners in the same review. Put your girls’ choice in this review, and the boys’ over in the boys’ episode. I’ll cover more on voting in tomorrow’s premiere of the guys’ edition. See you all then! Disclaimer: I do not own any of the anime shows or characters involved. I own the Roomies name, but I do not own any of the elements that may be related to Road Rules, Real World, Survivor, or any other reality show that might pop up over the course of the series. As it moves back, the host’s figure comes into view. Layla: Greetings! I’m Layla McKenzie, and I’m your host for Roomies. In just a matter of hours, the mansion behind me will be filled with sixteen young ladies from four different anime shows. They will be living together under one roof for the next forty-two days. They will not only be trying to survive each other, but they will also be vying for each other’s trust. That’s because at the end, they will vote on which member of the household should win the grand prize. I’m not exactly sure if this is making sense to some of you out there, but just stick around. It’ll all come together. The camera turns towards the front gate, which is now slowly opening. A black limousine is seen moving up the long driveway, heading towards the mansion. It pulls up right by the front door. A man in a tuxedo gets out of the passenger side and heads to the back, where he opens the door. Two figures step out of it: Meilin Rae and Jun Motimiya. Meilin: (CC) I’m Meilin Rae, and I’ll show these girls who’s large and in charge! Jun: (CC) I’m Jun Motimiya. I just want to say that I’m dedicating my performance in this experiment to my one true love, Matt Ishida! Matt, if you’re watching this, wish me good luck! As their bags are being taken out of the trunk, they both give the mansion a good look. Jun: So this is where we’re staying for the next six weeks. It looks so cool! Meilin: Of course it’s cool. Did you expect anything less? Meilin: (VO) I can’t believe Jun. It’s bad enough I had to share a limo with her. But in the twenty minutes that it took us to get from my house to here, I’ve learned that Jun‘s not exactly smart. In fact, she‘s practically clueless about this whole thing! How she managed to get to participate in this experiment, I’ll never know. Jun: (VO) To me, Meilin’s a girl on a mission. She wants that million dollars, and she doesn’t care whose feelings she has to hurt to get it. The two girls go up to the door, and Meilin reaches for the doorknob. She finds out that the door is locked. Meilin: The door’s locked! Jun: No way! How can it be locked? Meilin: Because I said so, dumdum! Jun: You know, you’re not making a real good attempt at earning my trust. Meilin: It’s not like I’m missing out on anything special... As Meilin tries once again to get the door open, Jun just glares at Meilin’s back angrily. Jun: (VO) Something tells me that Meilin and I won’t be getting along any time soon. A couple of minutes have passed. Two white vans pull into the driveway and up to the house. As they pull to a stop, the sliding door on the first one opens. Chelsea, Rita, and Nikki step out, and then they begin pulling their stuff out. Chelsea: (CC) Hello everyone! I’m Chelsea, and I’m just pleased to be here. Nikki: (CC) Hi mom! Hi dad! My name is Nikki, and I can’t believe that I’m on TV! I’m living out one of my fantasies! This is so incredible! Rita: (CC) Hi, I’m Rita. It’ll be nice to get away from reality for forty-two days. What am I talking about? I’m living in a house with fifteen other girls who are about the same age as me for the next six weeks. There won’t be any parents at all! If that isn’t reality, I don’t know what is. The three of them put all of their bags down on the ground when they spot Meilin and Jun standing at the front door. Chelsea: Meilin! Hi! Rita: How are you? Meilin: Tired of all of this playing around. Do you guys have a key to the house? Nikki: You mean it’s locked? Meilin: Yes. It’s locked. Jun: (to herself) Oh great, here she goes again. Chelsea: Sorry Meilin, but we don’t have the key. As they continue to converse, the door of the second van opens up. Two more girls step out... Misty and Duplica, also with their bags in hand. Misty: (CC) Hello to all of my friends out there! I’m Misty, and I’m from Cerulean City. I can’t wait to get started... forty-two days away from Team Rocket, Brock, Pikachu, and especially Ash. This feels like paradise. Duplica: (CC) I’m Duplica! That’s right! Basically, I’m here to prove that one-shot characters are as good as those in the starring roles. No offense Misty, but someone’s got to stand up for the little guy! As they make their way over to the other five, each girl introduces herself Chelsea: Welcome! I’m Chelsea! Misty: Nice to meet you. My name’s Misty, and this here is my friend, Duplica. Duplica: Hi there! Chelsea: Hello to you too! This girl next to me is my good friend Rita! Rita: (a little shyly) Hi. Chelsea: Next to her is Nikki. Nikki: Hello! Nice to meet you two! Meilin: (jumping from the top step down to the ground) I’m Meilin Rae, and you’d better remember that name too! Misty: (sweatdrops) Sure... Duplica: (walks over to Jun) And you are? Jun: Jun Motimiya. Hi! Misty: Motimiya? You wouldn’t happen to be from that ‘Digimon’ show, would you? Jun: Why yes I am! Misty just walks away silently. The other girls just look at her. Chelsea: What’s up with her? Duplica: I think she has this thing about hating anyone from Digimon. It’s a Pokémon thing. Jun: But you’re from Pokémon too. Why don’t you hate me? Duplica: Because I believe in giving everyone a fair chance in earning my trust. Besides, how can she expect to win that million-dollar jackpot if nobody likes her? Rita: Good point. Meilin: The only people I trust are the ones who are going to vote for me. Chelsea: (VO) You know, I haven’t been here five minutes, and I already know who’s already dug themselves into a hole. Meilin, despite how well I know her, seems to be on all-out mission to win the big prize, and she’s just putting down anyone who tries to oppose her. And as for Misty, that thing about her hating ‘Digimon’ cast members isn’t going to fare too well, since there’s supposed to be five of them opposed to Pokémon’s four. Duplica: (VO) I’m getting the feeling that Jun’s already feeling insecure. One of those girls must have said something to upset her, and now she’s just looking for anybody to support her. Layla: (VO) Seven of the cast members are now present, but none of them has the key to open the front door. Half an hour has passed since Meilin and Jun first arrived on the premises. Nikki spots another white van heading up towards the mansion, and she is the first to point it out. Nikki: Look! Here comes another van! Chelsea: Maybe someone in there has the key to the house. The van pulls up in front of the seven and opens, just as before. This time, three of the Digidestined step out. Yolei is the first to get out. Yolei: (excited) At last! We’re finally here! Kari: (steps out behind her) Come on Yolei, it didn’t take that long to get here. Yolei: We were in there for an hour! Sora has stepped out on the opposite side, and is now rounding the van to get her first peek at the others. Sora: (waves to them) Hello! Sora: (CC) My name is Sora, and I’m the holder of the Crest of Love. I’m glad that I decided to go through with this because I’m not only reuniting with some old friends, but I’m getting a chance to meet some new ones as well. The three girls take their stuff out while the others come down to greet them and shake hands. Kari: (CC) Hi everyone! My name is Kari Kamiya... most of you know me from my stellar performances on ‘Digimon.’ If not, then stay tuned! You’re going to learn a lot about me the next six weeks. Let’s just hope you don’t learn too much... Yolei: (CC) I’m Yolei, and I’m so excited! I’ve never had much luck getting friends in school... until I auditioned for ‘Digimon.’ Look at me now! I’ve never been so popular in my life! And now that I’m here, I’m hoping to double my popularity factor! Kari: So what are you all doing sitting out here? Duplica: The door’s locked. Yolei: You mean you don’t have a key? Meilin: Hey! Do you think we’d be stupid enough to be out here if we had a key? Yolei: I was just asking! Chelsea: That’s Meilin. Don’t mind her... she seems to be really moody today. Sora: (carrying one of her bags over to the group) I wonder why. As introductions continue, Sora catches a glimpse of Misty, who glares right back at her. Sora tries to ignore it as she gets to know some of the others, but she can’t help but feel that heated glaze radiating at her back. Layla: (VO) When we return... Kari: Someone’s coming! Chelsea: (jumps up and down) She’s got the key! She’s got the key! Layla: (VO) The house member with the key finally arrives... along with the rest of the cast. And later on... Duplica: There’s got to be some logical way to decide who will be roommates. Meilin: Whatever you do, don’t stick me with (points in one direction) her. Layla: (VO) When Roomies returns... * * * * * * * * * * Layla: (VO) So far, ten of the sixteen house members have arrived. Unfortunately, they cannot get into the mansion because one of the six currently not present has the key. Another limousine makes its way up the driveway. Chelsea recognizes it immediately. Chelsea: It’s Madison! I’d recognize that limo anywhere! Sure enough, Madison is the one that gets out when the limo stops in front of them. The girls go up to greet them, but then are stopped as four tall female bodyguards dressed in black get out and block their path. A fifth walks over to the trunk and unloads Madison’s suitcases, one by one. To the surprise of everyone present (including the ‘Cardcaptors’ cast), a dozen suitcases are pulled out and stacked on the ground in three piles. Madison: That will be all. Thanks for the ride, and I’ll see you in six weeks! The five bodyguards nod, and file back into the limo. The limo drives back down and off of the premises. As Madison turns to face her fellow housemates for the first time, some of them still are in shock. Kari and Misty are the first to break the silence. Kari: What was up with the bodyguards? Misty: And why did you bring so much stuff? Madison: (smiles) Well, the reason I have bodyguards is because my mom is the president of a famous toy company. As for why I brought so much stuff... well, I just like to wear something different every day, that’s all. Nikki: That’s just like you, Madison. Chelsea: Yeah. How are you going to get all of those bags inside? Madison: Let me worry about that, okay? Anyway, how are you guys? Madison introduces herself to the group. Madison: (CC) I’m Madison, and this experiment is just totally strange. For six weeks, someone will be videotaping me, instead of the other way around. I don’t know about everybody else, but for me, that’s going to take some getting use to. Yolei: So you’re Madison, huh? What’s it like to be rich anyway? Madison: What do you mean by that? Yolei: What do you mean what do I mean by that? Are you too stuck-up to talk to me? Or is it just that people of your kind never talk to people who live in apartments, like me? Kari: (puts her hand on Yolei’s shoulder) Yolei, stop that! Madison: It’s okay Kari. I get that question a lot. (turns to Yolei) To answer your question, I just think that it’s totally cool that I’m rich. But that doesn’t mean, like, that I’m not normal. My best friends aren’t rich! They’re just normal kids like you and me. Misty: (VO) Oh great. Madison’s got THAT voice. It reminds me so much of my sisters. You’d practically cut your head off just so you wouldn’t have to hear their annoying voices yap all day long. Jun: (VO) I can tell from the start that Madison is going to be an outcast. Just like me. Nobody likes her because she’s rich; nobody likes me because everyone thinks my sole purpose in life is to marry Matt. Well, it’s not the only thing I do... but wouldn’t other girls do the same thing if they were that crazy about a guy? Kari: Someone’s coming! Chelsea: Who? The group looks towards the gate as they hear the sound of roller skates hitting the pavement. Finally, the blader herself comes into view. It’s Sakura, and she’s skating her way up the driveway. Misty: Who’s that? Meilin: That’s Sakura Avalon. Don’t worry about her too much. She’s not that bright. Madison: How could you say something like that about Sakura? Sora: (interrupting them) Look! She’s got something around her neck! Kari: What is it? Nikki: I think I know what it is. Duplica: You mean? Chelsea: (jumps up and down) She’s got the key! She’s got the key! Sakura: (CC) Hi! I’m Sakura Avalon! I’m so glad that we get six weeks off of school to live in a house all by ourselves! And to do it with so many close friends without worrying about Clow Cards just makes it even sweeter! The group of eleven begins to celebrate as Sakura skates to a stop. Most of the girls run over to her and give her a welcome hug. Naturally, Madison is the first to reach her. Sakura: Hey! What’s this all about? Madison: You’ve got the key to the house, Sakura! Sakura: Of course. Wow, it’s nice to see all of you so happy to meet me. Meilin: They’re only happy because you finally got here. Now give up the key so we can get inside. Sakura takes the key, which is hanging on a string key chain, and throws it towards Meilin, who catches it. Meilin goes to unlock the door, and some of the girls follow. Only Madison, Chelsea, Nikki, and Rita stay with Sakura as she takes off her skates. Chelsea: Late as usual, right Sakura? Sakura: I’m not late! I was told to be here by three. Nikki: We were told to be here by two. Rita: Where did you hear three from? Madison: Maybe you got the meeting time wrong. Sakura: What if I did? Oh, that’s just great... no wonder Meilin’s mad at me. Madison: Forget her. We’re here to have fun, and that’s all that matters. Rita: Sakura? Sakura: Yes? Rita: Where’s all your stuff? Sakura: In my book bag! Madison, Chelsea, Rita, and Nikki: (simultaneously) What? Chelsea: You mean everything that you need for six weeks is in there? Sakura: Just about. Chelsea: Wow... Nikki: Hey, you guys want to go in? They got the door open. Madison: You bet. The five girls head in and join the rest of the cast, who are still in awe over the size and beauty of the mansion. Misty: No way! Compared to where I’ve had to sleep throughout my travels, this place is heaven and a whole lot more! Sora: If Mimi saw this place, she’d probably faint on the spot! The sheer beauty alone would be enough to do that. The twelve of them decide to give themselves their own private tour of the place. They get a glimpse of the living room, the recreation room, and the dining room. There are also a few places they can’t get into because they are locked. It’s not until the group reaches the kitchen that their eyes nearly fall out of their sockets. Madison: The kitchen’s decked from head to toe in crystal! Kari: This can’t be happening. How can we deserve a place this good? Meilin: Because we’re anime superstars, that’s why! Rita: (opens the fridge) I wonder how much is being paid for us to live here. Sora: I don’t care what the price is. As long as I don’t have to spend a single penny, that’s good enough for me. Jun: Agreed. Chelsea: Say, it’s starting to get late. Maybe we should start cooking dinner? Yolei: Good idea. Does anyone here know how to cook? The group stands silent for a few seconds. Finally, Sakura decides to slowly raise her hand. Sakura: I know a little bit. Madison: (smiles) Don’t worry. You’ll do just fine, Sakura. Meilin: Yeah, like how fine she does capturing Clow Cards. Sakura: (VO) You know, I’ve gotten use to Meilin’s arrogance. I’m pretty sure that the others haven’t, though. If I were her, I would watch what I say, because right now, she’s not making too many friends. Chelsea: I know a few recipes myself. Sora: I’ll help too! I had to learn when we got stuck in the Digiworld three years ago. Misty: A Digidestined cook? Now this I have to see. Yolei: What was that supposed to mean? Misty: Nothing. Nothing at all. Sora: (VO) Misty, I don’t care how much you hate ‘Digimon.’ I’m pretty sure you don’t care how much I hate ‘Pokémon.’ But get one thing straight... I am not going to sacrifice my chance at a million dollars just because of a grudge! Chelsea: (VO) You can tell how big this Pokémon-Digimon rivalry is going to get. Misty and Sora are already going at it, and who knows what’s going to happen when the rest of the group arrives. Sakura: (VO) The last thing I want is to have my fate in this game rest on whether I like Pokémon or Digimon better. Back at the front door, someone enters, stepping over some of the suitcases that had been brought in. She knocks on the door before closing it, and then begins yelling into the house. Cast Member # 13: Hello? Is anyone here? Kari is the first to reach the front door. She greets the newcomer. Kari: Hello! I’m Kari Kamiya of ‘Digimon.’ Cast Member # 13: (putting her suitcases down) Pleased to meet you! I’m Sasami of ‘Tenchi Muyo!’ Sasami: (CC) I’m Sasami, and I’m glad to be here! I may be the only representative from my show, but I’m still here to have a good time and make some friends along the way. Sasami leaves her bags with the others as Kari leads her to the rest of the group. As they share introductions, another knock on the front door sends Kari running back. She opens it, and this time is greeted by two faces. The first is a beautiful brunette in a school uniform, while the other a young girl in a baseball uniform and matching hat. Giselle: (CC) My name is Giselle, and I’m just so glad that this house looks decent enough. It’s manageable. Let’s hope the rest of the cast is friendly... Casey: (CC) I’m Casey. I was completely surprised when I was picked to participate... after all, I’m only ten, and I just started my Pokémon journey. I miss my Chikorita. The good thing though is that I’ll get to meet a few other Pokémon trainers here. Kari: Welcome guys! I hope you guys had a pleasant trip here. Giselle: Personally, I thought the trip wasn’t pleasant enough. With that, Giselle walks off towards the kitchen. Kari: (sarcastically) Just great. We’ve got another one. Casey: What do you mean another one? Kari: I’ll explain it to you later. Anyway, I’m Kari. Casey: Casey. Nice to meet you. After closing the door, Giselle and Casey go through another round of introductions. Giselle pays special attention to Misty, who seems to be watching her every move. Sora: (VO) First Misty comes out and states that she hates anyone from ‘Digimon.’ Now, I see her looking at this new girl the same way she looked at us, and she’s a Pokémon trainer. It makes me wonder whom you have to be to be liked by her. Casey: (VO) Upon first glance, the first thing I’m thinking is who can I get along with real quick. I feel so out of place here. I hope everyone will accept me. A little bit later, Rita and Madison walk to the front door, where they see all of the bags and suitcases littered all around the entrance. They open the door, and look straight ahead, where they see the mailbox right by the driveway, with the flag up. They go over and empty the mailbox of its contents: a videotape and two large manila envelopes. Both of them are marked ‘Open immediately,’ followed by a 1 or a 2. The two of them run close the mailbox and run back inside, packages in hand. Madison: We’ve got mail, guys! We’ve got mail! Chelsea: Already? We haven’t even been in here a whole day yet. Yolei: What is it? Rita: We don’t know. We didn’t want to open them right away. Duplica: Well, since we’re all here, open it now. The whole group gathers around the stove as Madison opens the envelope with the number one on it. She pulls out the top piece of paper first. Madison: (reads it aloud) Welcome to Roomies, where you will be competing for up to one million dollars in cash and prizes. Upon opening this envelope, pull out only this page and one copy of the floor plan of the mansion. Find your way to the second floor recreation room and play the videotape you have in the VCR there. Meilin: Well, let’s get up there then! Chelsea: What about dinner? Who’s going to watch the stove? Kari: Yeah. We do have to watch this all together, right? Sakura: Right. We’ll eat first and then we’ll watch the video. Agreed? The group agrees. They decide to get back to preparing dinner. Sasami notices and goes over to help Sakura, Chelsea and Sora. Sasami: What are you guys cooking for dinner? Chelsea: Chicken. Sora: As well as some rice, and some vegetable stew as well. Sasami: Mind if I help out? Sakura: Sure, why not? The trio watches as Sasami quickly goes to work. They are completely amazed by her speed, as well as her knowledge of food preparation. Chelsea: (VO) Sasami is such a great cook! I would have never thought that she could cook. Sora: (VO) I’m happy that there’s at least one of us who can really cook. Sakura: (VO) This meal is going to be so good... They continue to look as Sasami works feverishly, while the rest of the girls are in the dining room looking over the map of the house. Layla: (VO) When we return... Sora: (VO) It has just dawned upon us that Mimi has not arrived yet, and I’m starting to get a little worried. Layla: (VO) The Digidestined await the arrival of the sixteenth and final cast member, Mimi Tachikawa. Plus... Duplica: There’s got to be some logical way to decide who will be roommates. Meilin: Whatever you do, don’t stick me with (points in one direction) her. Sakura: (VO) You can feel the tension in the room mounting. Sasami: (CC) I can’t believe everyone’s complaining about who their roommate is. Why? Life is too short for petty arguments like that. Layla: (VO) When we return to Roomies after these messages... * * * * * * * * * * Night One Layla: (VO) The cast members are now sitting down to their first meal together. Believe it or not, they’re going to be pleasantly surprised. The entire group is now sitting in the dining room eating. Sasami, Sakura, Chelsea, and Sora look around and see a smile on everyone’s face. Jun: Wow! This is the best piece of chicken I’ve ever tasted! Madison: I agree. You four did a great job! Chelsea: Oh, it was nothing. Sora: Sasami’s a natural cook. Sakura: She knew how to prepare everything just right. Sasami: (blushes) I’m not that good. Sora: Yes you are! And don’t let anyone else tell you anywise. Meilin: That’s tellin’ her! She ought to get a medal for a meal this good. They then break up into their own mini-conversations. Chelsea, Sora, and Meilin are all talking with Sasami about her great cooking tactics. Sakura, Madison, Rita, and Nikki are discussing their personal love lives. Misty and Giselle are having a good-hearted argument over whose Pokémon is the best, with Casey and Duplica looking on. That leaves Kari, Yolei, and Jun, who are talking about strategy. Jun: So we agree that if any of us get chosen as a team captain, we’ll pick the other two automatically. Kari: Yeah. I trust you two, so I know we’ll all do well on the same team. Yolei: Maybe we should get Sora and Mimi in on this deal, too. Kari: Speaking of which... where is Mimi? Yolei: Good question. (yelling to Sora) Sora! Where do you think Mimi is? Sora thinks about for a second before her eyes also light up in shock. Sora: (VO) It has just dawned upon us that Mimi has not arrived yet, and I’m starting to get a little worried. Duplica: Maybe we should watch that videotape. Giselle: But she isn’t here yet. We can’t watch it until the entire cast is here. Duplica: But what if our first challenge is to find out where she is? That information might be on the tape, you know. Sasami: She’s got a point, you know. Chelsea: Okay, so how do we get to that recreation room? The fifteen girls make their way to the recreation room. Inside, not only do they find a TV with a VCR, but there is also a pool table, a bookcase full of books, and a computer with an Internet connection. The girls look around in awe. Yolei: Just look at this place. Sakura: This is so cool! Misty: (CC) I can’t believe it! Every time we step into a new room, it completely outdoes whatever we just saw in the room before. That’s how amazing this mansion is. At this rate, I may never want to leave. Nikki: (CC) The first thing I looked at was the bookcase. I just love to read books, especially fantasy stories. I hope there are some good ones in there. After a few minutes, the TV is turned on, and the tape is inserted into the VCR. The tape starts immediately after the play button is pushed. The entire ‘Cardcaptors’ cast, with the exception of Madison, gasps as they see Layla McKenzie on the screen. Layla: Good evening girls. Sakura: It’s Miss McKenzie! Layla: I hope you girls have had an exciting first day. Sakura, Meilin, Madison, Chelsea, Rita, and Nikki... you six in particular. The camera pans around the group as Layla continues to talk. Layla: I am aware that the non-Cardcaptors cast members feel that they have an advantage here because I’m the host. But rest assured, they will be given the same treatment as the rest of you. Anyway, more than likely you’ve had some time to look over the map. You’re going to have to get used to this place real fast if you’re to survive here for forty-two days. Sasami: (VO) That’s not too reassuring. I haven’t even gotten a look at the map myself. Layla: I’m sure, though, that there are only two things on your mind. First of all, the ‘Digimon’ cast shouldn’t worry too much about Mimi. She had trouble on her flight here from New York, but she should be here by morning. A collective sigh of relief is heard from the Digidestined. Layla: As for the second, you’re probably wondering who will be roommates. Well, open the second manila envelope that you got earlier, and read the instructions inside. That should take care of everything. Have a good night of rest ladies, and I’ll see you again in the morning. The tape then stops, as it has reached its end. Sakura, who is holding the second envelope, now opens it and pulls out a bag filled with sixteen different marbles. There is also a piece of paper with instructions, as well as eight copies of the floor plan and two extra keys to the house itself. Sakura: (reading the instructions aloud) We are well aware that many of the cast members do know each other personally. We do intend to spread you around so that you get to know everyone else. Our first attempt will be to randomly assign roommates. Each cast member must reach into the bag and pull out one marble. After everyone has drawn, look for whoever has the same colored marble as you. That person is your roommate for the duration of your stay. The color of the marble also marks what room you will be sleeping in. Duplica: There’s got to be some logical way to decide who will be roommates. Madison: What are talking about? It seems logical to me. Meilin: Whatever you do, don’t stick me with (points in one direction) her. Jun: What? Are you afraid of me or something? Meilin: No. I just can’t stand you and the lack of a brain in your head. Sakura: (VO) You can definitely feel the tension in the room mounting. Kari: (VO) I can tell that Meilin and Jun definitely won’t be happy if they end up roommates. Layla: (VO) One at a time, the girls draw a marble. After a few minutes, it is determined who is rooming with whom. [The room assignments: Red - Misty and Kari Yellow - Casey and Chelsea Blue - Rita and Sasami Green - Giselle and Jun Pink - Duplica and Sakura Purple - Meilin and Nikki Orange - Yolei and Madison White - Sora and Mimi] Kari: (CC) I just got stuck with the ‘Digimon’ hater. (sighs) This is going to be a long first night. Casey: (CC) Chelsea seems like a nice girl. She’s a little talkative for my taste, but otherwise I think she’ll make a great roommate. Sasami: (CC) I can’t believe everyone’s complaining about who their roommate is. Why? Life is too short for petty arguments like that. I’m with Rita, and that’s that. Jun: (CC) Personally, I’m frightened. Giselle seems to possess some of the same personality traits that Meilin has. Sakura: (CC) I’m not sure what to think about rooming with Duplica. I think she has a disadvantage coming in because she’s just a one-shot character. She’s probably intimidated of me because of my superstar status. Nikki: (CC) I’m glad that I’m with someone I know. Whether or not having Meilin as a roommate is a good thing... well, I’ll find out soon enough. Yolei: (CC) I feel so lucky to score Madison as a roommate. She seems to be very popular... especially with Sakura. Hopefully she can pass some of her charm to me. Sora: (CC) I know everyone was jealous of me when I picked the odd marble. Its pair ended up being in the bag, which means that Mimi’s my roommate. I’m sure Mimi and I will be the only roommates who get along, and it’ll just be us going after the money. The cast goes to get their bags as they head up to get their first look at the bedrooms. Chelsea: (screams) No way! No way! Casey: What’s wrong Chelsea? Chelsea: Just look at our room. Casey takes one quick peek, and then she screams along with Chelsea. Giselle: What are you two screaming about? Chelsea: I can’t believe how beautiful our room looks! Everyone runs over and looks inside. It turns out that the yellow bedroom was the biggest one in the house, and thus there was plenty of room for Chelsea and Casey and their belongings. It was also decorated with flowers and plush dolls all around. In the meantime, the cast discovers that the two smallest rooms both have bunk beds. The pink room is the smaller of the two, followed by the blue, which isn’t that much bigger. In the pink room... Sakura: Why does our room look so small? Duplica: That’s because it is, Sakura. Sakura: (sighs) Can I take the top? Duplica: Sure. It doesn’t matter to me anyway. In the blue room... Sasami: We got stuck in a room with bunk beds. Rita: Figures. What do we have to do to get recognized around here? Sasami: You said it. Rita: So, do you want the top bunk, or can I have it? Sasami: Which one do you want? Rita: Well, I tend to sleepwalk once in awhile, so I’d probably be better off in the bottom bunk. Sasami: (sweatdrops) Okay... I’ll get the top bunk, then. After an hour or so, everyone works their way into their rooms, and they begin to unpack and get dressed from bed. In the red room... Misty has just turned off the light in the room, and she gets into her bed, which is closer to the door. Kari is lying in hers, with her hands resting behind her head. Both are in their pajamas... Kari’s is completely pink, while Misty’s is yellow. Kari: Misty... can I ask you a question? Misty: What? Kari: Why do you hate me and the other ‘Digidestined’ so much? Misty: Well, I hate you because you give us Pokémon trainers a bad name. Kari: A bad name? How? Misty: You come along with all of those Digimon who fight real villains and face situations where you can get hurt or even get killed. On our show, we don’t use our Pokémon just for battles. We become friends with them, so that we can develop long lasting relationships with them. Kari: We do that with our Digimon too. Misty: Maybe, but you let them fight and fight until they can’t fight any more. Kari: Have you ever thought of the reason why a lot of fans watch Digimon rather than Pokémon? Misty: Why would fans watch your show over mine? Kari: Because of all of the action. Then there’s the constant character interaction. And of course, there’s the occasional relationship or two... for the older kids, you know. Misty: (VO) I just laid there, listening to Kari, as she tried to prove to me that Digimon is better than Pokémon. I wonder if she realizes that there’s no way that she’s going to convince me of that! Kari: (VO) I have no idea why my little query over why she hates Digimon has suddenly turned into a debate over what makes one show better than the other. That’s not what I want to hear. I just want to know why she hates Digimon! Over in the orange room... Madison: So you’re not too popular at school? Yolei: Everyone thinks that I’m a geek just because I wear glasses. And because of that, they think that the only thing I’ll listen to is the latest computer chip design and how it will revolutionize the Internet as we know it. (sigh) I just want to be Yolei, not some geek who doesn’t get any attention. Madison: Have you tried changing your style of clothing? Yolei: Somewhat. You see, when I go into the Digiworld with the other children, we get a whole new set of clothes. Clothes so amazing that I wish that I could wear them in the real world. Unfortunately, finding that stuff is so hard these days. Madison: I could probably help you. Yolei: You can? Madison: Yeah. I know a lot about fashion. I could probably find the necessary materials and help you make that perfect outfit. Yolei: You’d do that just for me? Madison: Of course. That’s what roommates are for. Yolei: (VO) Madison said she’d do it! I can’t believe it! I can imagine myself walking into school right now, and everyone would compliment on my style... and not ridicule me because I wear glasses. Madison: (VO) Yolei seems like a sweet girl who’s just looking for a little more attention. Seriously, I think she needs more than that. But that’s why I’m here! A little makeover, and Yolei will totally be in the ‘in’ crowd. From outside the mansion, we see the light in their room turn off... as well as the lights of all of the other rooms. The screen then fades to black. End Episode One Layla: (VO) Next time on Roomies... Mimi: Sorry I’m late... but you wouldn’t believe the selection of clothes they have at the local mall. Layla: (VO) Mimi finally arrives at the house, and first impressions of her by the non-Digimon cast members are mixed. Misty: (VO) I hate her first off because she’s from ‘Digimon.’ What makes her even more unlikable is that she’s taken a big city New York accent and mixed it with that annoying little valley girl accent! Yolei: (VO) Misty can hate all she wants. As long as she doesn’t say anything that’ll hurt Mimi’s feelings, then she can say whatever she wants. Layla: (VO) Then, the cast learns about the confessionals... and the cool reward of spilling your guts every day... Giselle: (VO) I can’t believe this. All I have to do is come in here once a day, tell the camera whose guts I hate, and I add a possible five grand to my pot! Easy as pie! Sakura: (CC) I’m trying to find out the reasoning behind this sudden alliance between Mimi and my best friend Madison. A little help here! Layla: (VO) And finally, the crew gets their first prize challenge, as the roommates have to learn to trust each other... Nikki: I can’t find the other piece! Meilin: What do you mean? The clue points to this room! It’s gotta be here! Sasami: Yolei stupidly forgot to read something on the paper, and now at least one pair is going to get screwed out of the prize because of her. Misty: Kari, use your head for once and find that stinkin’ puzzle piece! Kari: I don’t see you trying to help at all! Layla: (VO) Next time on Roomies... Copyright Date: 5/15/01
