This week’s episode of “Roomies” is dedicated to the victims of the World Trade Center and Pentagon plane crashes. May they rest in peace. ***** Okay folks, now you can finally speak your mind! I am now accepting entries for those of you who wish to submit questions for the Reunion Special at the end of the show! Here’s how it works. As of right now, I have not decided how long the special will be, so there is no limit currently to how many questions will be asked. So, you may submit questions as many times as you want, as many at a time as you want. You may direct the questions to one character in particular, or a select group of characters. If you even want to me ask me a question about the series, you can do that too! Most likely, a final list of questions will probably not be available until about a week prior to the airing of the special. Those lucky fans whose questions make the final list may even be asked to present the question live at the special! More details on that at a later date. Only I will know what questions will be asked at the special prior to its airing. Please note that I will read through each prospective question. Any inappropriate questions will be immediately thrown out. The cut-off date for submitting questions is tentatively scheduled to be October 20th, 2001. Entries submitted after that date will be accepted only in the case that I’ve fallen behind in finishing the series. Oh... to keep the questions as secret as possible, they must be mailed directly to me! My e-mail address is jgg121@yahoo.com. Fanfiction.net readers/reviewers need to remember this especially! Posting it as part of your review diminishes the chances that the question you asked will be used! You have been warned! That’s all for now! If any rules need to be modified or answered, you will be informed of the change immediately. Now, onto Episode 14, which features a special cameo appearance by a famous fanfic author, as well as a few other guest appearances as well! Oh, and before anyone asks, I’m doing this as a favor! This is not an invitation for everyone to try and get into the show! Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters, shows, or songs used in the writing of this fanfic. Please remember that! * * * * * * * * * * Oak: (VO) Previously, on Roomies... Ash: Thinking about Giselle, huh? Tracey: How did you know I was thinking about her? Oak: (VO) Is there young love in the air? Tracey thinks he has something with Giselle... Tracey: Oh, you’re just jealous because I’ve got a hotter girl than you do! Ash: What? Now wait a minute... Tracey: I’ll admit that in my travels with you two, sometimes I fell love with Misty myself. But I never came out with it because I was aware that you two were already a couple, whether you’d both admit it or not. Ash: (angry) What? Tracey: I don’t see what you’re so angry about. You can have Misty. I’ve got Giselle. Oak: (VO) Meanwhile, talk about going uphill... Ash: We have to climb all the way up there? Li: Finally. A real challenge. Joe: Ooh boy... Tracey: I don’t know about this one, Joe. Planning on backing out? Joe: Kinda. Why? Tracey: If you walk out on this challenge, I’ll go with you. The teams watch tentatively as the two of them make their way up. Without warning, Ash falls off. His team groans as Ash floats his way back to the ground. But as Ash reaches the ground, Davis loses his grip and falls off the wall. Li: Davis! Get back on the wall! Forget about coming back down! By the time Cody started climbing the wall, Li was preparing to reach for the last few footholds before the top. Li reaches them easily as he pulls himself up and over the wall, sparking a merry celebration from his teammates. Oak: (VO) And if that was interesting enough, Tai goes from talking to one stressed out sister... Tai: Davis? Why do you want to talk... Kari: (yelling loudly) That’s none of your business! Just get him on the phone! Oak: (VO) To calling a new girlfriend? The ‘Voice Only’ screen disappears and a live picture of Golden Girl appears on the screen. Golden Girl happens to be Whitney, the gym leader of Goldenrod City! Tai pulls a small box out of his pocket. He opens it. Whitney’s eyes shine as she spots what is in it... a 14K golden necklace! Whitney: Wow! That’s so beautiful! Tai: Yeah! I think it’ll fit you perfectly. Oak: (VO) First there was Nurse Joy and Davis... now this! Day Twenty Eight Izzy is at work on his laptop. For some reason, he is examining the on-line version of the Pokémon Gym Leaders directory. He searches for the name ‘Whitney’ and finds it instantly. He clicks on the link to access her bio. He studies it carefully. Izzy: Whitney, the gym leader of Goldenrod City. At age eighteen, she is the youngest out of all of the Johto League Gym Leaders. But what she lacks in experience, she makes up with dedication and hard work. Her Pokémon are most notable for their specialty attack: rollout. Teams with Pokémon with weak defenses will struggle to defeat her. Best chance at beating her would be to use Pokémon that are much stronger than hers. A recommendation of five to seven levels has been given by the Pokémon League. Izzy now knew about Whitney’s immediate background. But that’s not what he was after. He was curious about why Tai would need to contact her... as well as give her a gold necklace. Is Tai over Sora already? Shouldn’t he date someone that’s more of his age? And wouldn’t it be a crime for a gym leader to date a trainer? Wait, Tai’s not even a Pokémon trainer! The questions continued to shuffle through Izzy’s mind as he pulls up from the menu a copy of the phone records for the past week. Izzy: It looks like Tai’s been trying to reach Whitney for the past few days. But my question is how do the two of them know each other in the first place? It’s strange. I guess I’m going to have to conduct an investigation of my own. I don’t want history to repeat itself after the events of two weeks ago. Izzy continued typing away, desperate to find answers to a mystery that none of the other boys in the mansion even know about. Later that day, the boys are greeted with another manila envelope in the mailbox. Tenchi gets it, comes back in, and reads the paper inside aloud. Tenchi: (aloud) Tomorrow’s the night to show off what you’ve got. If it’s good, you won’t get tomatoes that are rot. Show off your skills to the crowd! Show ‘em you can make them loud! Please report to my laboratory by 3:30 p.m. for further instructions. So, the guys gather themselves and head down to the laboratory. Professor Oak, awaiting their arrival, greets them as they enter the lab. He then leads them to the patio in the back, where they all take a seat in various places. Oak: Well, welcome back! How are you guys doing? Izzy: We’re doing very well, thank you. Tracey: But I don’t think we would have lived through these past four weeks without you, professor! Oak: (coughs) Yes, well, I think it’s time I told you what your next physical challenge will be. Izzy: We just had a physical challenge yesterday! Is another one really necessary? Oak: (glaring at Izzy) Yes, it is. Izzy: I was just asking. Oak: Anyway, your sixth physical challenge will take place tomorrow night at the Viridian City Amphitheater. The competition will be a talent showcase. You will show off your talents to an audience of a couple thousand. Gary: A talent show? Of all the stupid... Oak: Gary! Gary: Sorry, grandpa. It’s just that I think this particular competition is stupid! Ash: I think Gary here doesn’t have any talents! Gary: What? I have plenty of talents! Ash: Really? Gary: Yeah! Ash: I’d like to see some of them! Gary: (smirks) You have to wait until the competition for that! Ash: Fine by me. Gary: Especially since my talents are better than yours! Ash: What? You take that back! Gary: Why should I? You know it’s true! Ash: (getting up) Why you little... Gary: (getting up as well) So, you want a piece of me, huh? Oak: Ash! Gary! Stop this arguing at once! I will allow no more of it! Ash: (apologetically) Sorry, professor. Gary: (in a similar fashion) I’m sorry too. Oak: Good. Now that you two have calmed down, may I resume my speech? Ash and Gary: (sitting down) Yes, sir. Oak: Now, it’s time to choose captains. According to the message I got this morning, the captains of this challenge will be Tai and Matt. Tai: (getting up and pointing at himself) Me? Matt: (pumping his fist in the air) Yeah! Finally! Oak: Let’s see... teams must present two to five acts. Each act may vary in length, but may not go on for more than ten minutes. All acts must be approved by myself at least twenty four hours before show time. This is to check for any acts that may be inappropriate. Each team will be given five hundred dollars to spend on any outfits, props, or whatever else they may need to perform their acts. The winning team will be decided on by three judges, independent of the show. And of course, every member of the winning team will have one hundred thousand dollars added to their personal jackpot. The boys applaud in response to Professor Oak’s speech. They remember that they are all there to win the money. Oak: Now, I will leave you guys to split into two teams and start your planning. We will be leaving from the mansion at 4 p.m. tomorrow to head up to Viridian City. Good luck to you all, and I’ll see you tomorrow. As Professor Oak leaves, he nods to Tai and Matt, which is a signal for them to choose teams. Matt: Okay, let’s get this over with so we can start planning. Tai: I agree. But I get to choose first! Matt: What? (snaps his fingers) Darn. [The team assignments (picked in random order): Blue - Tai, Tenchi, TK, Ash, Tracey, Ken, Cody, and Davis Green - Matt, Li, Brock, Tori, Gary, Richie, Joe, and Izzy] Tai: I couldn’t have picked a better team myself. Matt: I could’ve... that team of yours is a bunch of losers! Gary: (giving Matt a high five) I’m with you, Matt! Oh yeah! Ash: Who are you punks calling losers? Tai: Yeah! We’re better than you are! Matt: We’ll see about that! Tai: Guys, let’s get cracking! Matt: Guys, let’s move out! The two teams separate and go their own way... Tai takes his team to Professor Oak’s living room, while Matt takes his out to the lake on the Pokémon preserve. The teams spend most of the day discussing what they are going to do for the competition. In the living room, Tai’s team goes over their possible options. Tracey: I’m sure the audience will love my talent! Tenchi: I don’t think the judges will think that drawing good Pokémon pictures is interesting. Davis: Whatever we do Tai, I’m behind you one hundred percent! Tai: Thanks Davis. But first, we need to decide what we’re going to do. (hits himself in the head) Why can’t I come up with any ideas? Ken: Anyone here know how to juggle? He receives a collective ‘no’ from the group. Tai: Why? You mean you do? Ken: (scratching his head) No, but I was hoping someone did know so I could do a duet with them! Tenchi: That’s not much help... hey, I’ve got an idea! Does anyone hear know any jokes? People love comedians! Davis: I do! I do! TK: Sorry Davis, but I don’t think anyone would like your jokes. Davis: (yelling) Well, at least I can tell jokes, TS! Tracey: (sweatdrops) Calm down you two! We’ll figure out something. Meanwhile, over with Matt’s team... Matt: Okay, so far we’ve got Li and Tori doing a martial arts demonstration, Brock and Gary doing a skit on girls... (to himself) heaven forbid... (aloud again), I’m going to play my guitar, and Izzy going to do a presentation on computers... (to himself) but I don’t see why anyone would want to listen to that. That leaves Joe and Richie. And since we can only do five acts, you guys will have to work together. Joe: How about a CPR demonstration? Richie: That’s not really a talent. Besides, I’m not doing it if you’re going to do mouth-to-mouth on me. Matt: (sweatdrops) That would be weird. Richie then comes up with a bright idea. He whispers it into Joe’s ear. Joe quickly approves of it. Joe: That doesn’t sound too bad. Let’s do it. Matt: Do what? Joe: You’ll see. Matt: (sigh) If we’re all set then, let’s go get our props. And remember guys, we can’t spend more than five hundred bucks, so make any purchases wisely! The group heads off to the local Pokémon Mart to see if they can find any of the materials they need. Night Twenty Eight That night, Matt is busy playing his guitar as he practices for tomorrow’s competition. Matt: (singing) I’m on the outside, I’m looking in... Joe: Don’t tell me you’re singing that song. Matt: What’s wrong with it? Joe: It’s too depressing. Matt: Come on! Slow songs give me the opportunity to showcase not only my guitar playing skills, but my singing skills as well. Joe: I get it. You relish any chance you can get to practice playing your guitar. Matt: (strumming his guitar) Yep. Who knows? We might get called out on another band gig. Joe: Do you ever think you’ll make it big? Matt: (shrugs his shoulders as he leans back in his chair) Hopefully. You never know, though. Sometimes I go on stage thinking that we’ll never get noticed... The two of them ponder this thought as Matt goes back to playing his guitar. Day Twenty Nine As the hours tick away until the competition, the two teams are at different points in the process of preparations. Matt’s team seems to be getting the hang of things, as they have been practicing their acts all day. Tai’s team, on the other hand, is still struggling to get their act together. From getting the right clothes to making sure their routines are right. Meanwhile, Izzy had been watching Tai for some time now. Not to spy on his team and see what they had planned for competition, but rather to watch and see whether or not Tai would run off and try to call Whitney again. Sure enough, around two thirty, Tai left the group to use the phone... although he told them that he was going to use the restroom. Izzy quietly follows Tai to the kitchen, where he watches Tai as he makes the call. A minute later, Tai is deep in conversation with the Goldenrod City gym leader. Tai: So, did you get it? Whitney: Yes. I’ll hold it until you get a chance to come down here. Tai: Okay. Is everything in place? Whitney: Just about. By the way, what day do you want this to happen? Tai: I don’t have a definite date. Probably right after everything here’s said and done. Whitney: Good. If you need anything, just call! Tai: (blows a kiss to the screen) You know I will. Whitney: Stop it! You’re making me blush! Tai: I’d better go. I don’t anyone else to find out what I’m doing. Whitney: Okay! Bye bye! With that, the two sign off. Tai hangs the phone up and heads back to the others. Izzy, staying out of sight, makes a mental note of what just transpired. Izzy: (CC) Tai, I don’t know what you’re doing, but I’m on to you. I have no idea what you see with this Whitney chick, but I’m going to find out. * * * * * * * * * * Night Twenty Nine After making the three hour trip to Viridian City, the boys are now backstage. They are getting into their costumes. In the green team’s dressing room, things seem to be pretty much under control. Matt: Okay. Everyone knows their roles, right? Tori: Yep. I think we’re ready. Li: Just make sure you hold the board straight. Tori: Look, if you want to, we can settle things afterwards. Li: Sounds fine to me. Matt: Can we avoid fighting for once? Suddenly, the door opens. Joe, the closest one to it, goes over to stop the person from coming in. Joe: I’m sorry, but this is a private dressing room. Man: Hold on! I just want to see my son! Brock perks up at the sound of this man’s voice. Brock: Dad? Is that you? Joe: (letting go of the door) Dad? Man: (pushes the door open) Brock? Brock: Dad! Brock and the man, his father Flint, run towards each other and embrace in a tender hug. The others look on in surprise. The two release each other as Brock introduces his dad. Brock: Guys, I’d like you to meet my dad, Flint! Joe, Richie, and Matt go up to shake hands with Flint. Li and Tori just give a nonchalant ‘Hi!’ Gary just ignores the whole thing as he prepares for his act. As for Izzy, well, he’s once again entrenched in working in his computer, doing who knows what. Brock: So, what brings you here? I didn’t know you were in this part of Kanto! Flint: Well, I’m actually one of the judges for the competition tonight. Brock: Really? Richie: Wow! That means we have an ace up our sleeve! Flint: Now, wait a minute! Just because I’m Brock’s father doesn’t mean that I’m going to give him a ten on the spot. I’d like to see what kinda talent he has. After all, I was away from home for ten years! Joe: (sweatdrops) Ten years? Tori: Some father you are... Flint: And I know yours too! You lost your mom seven years ago, right? Tori: (surprised) Huh? How did you know? Flint: I have my sources. (hears something from off-screen) I think they’re calling me. I’d better go. (waves goodbye to the group as he heads off) See you guys in a little bit! Brock: Bye dad! Root for me, okay? Outside, several thousand people had taken their seats in the amphitheater. The crowd had been talking for several minutes, especially since it was after the scheduled start time of eight o’clock. But suddenly the lights dim. The crowd applauds as Professor Oak steps up to the stage and heads for the microphone. Oak: Good evening everyone! Crowd: Good evening! Oak: How are you folks today? I want you to scream if today was a good day for you. Almost the entire crowd screams in agreement. Professor Oak has to reach up and check his ears to make sure they were still on. Oak: Great. Anyway, I’m Professor Samuel Oak, the Pokémon researcher and host for Roomies, a new reality series. The crowd is in an uproar again, many of them excited to meet the great Professor Oak for the first time in person. Oak: (signaling the crowd to quiet down) Now now, I know a lot of you would like to get to know me, so I’ll have an autograph session after tonight’s show. Speaking of which, let’s get started with it. Tonight’s host is the current leader of the Elite Four, which technically makes him the world’s number one Pokémon Master! But he’s here tonight, just for you! Please give a big hand for Lance! Professor Oak steps off the stage as the curtains open. The crowd cheers as Lance comes out on stage. He waves at the crowd as he heads for the microphone and takes it off its stand. Lance: Good evening Viridian City! How’s everyone doing tonight? The crowd cheers once again. Lance: That’s good. Tonight, we’re bringing you a special show... Off on one side of the stage, Matt’s team is watching from behind the curtains. Tai’s team is doing the same on the opposite side. From time to time, Brock and Tori look out and glance towards the judges’ stand, which is close to Tai’s team’s side. They see that Flint is in the middle. Brock: Hey, there’s my dad! (waves to Flint) Hi dad! Tori: (pulling him back) You want to get in trouble? Brock: No. (looking back out) Hey... who are those two girls sitting beside him? Tori: Huh? Tori looked out and saw the two girls sitting on the bench with Flint. The one to his left Brock recognized immediately... it was Lorelei, another member of the Elite Four. Brock couldn’t help but feel his heart melt as he sets his eyes on her. He then turned to the younger girl, who was on the right. He didn’t recognize her at all, but he didn’t care. Brock falls for basically anything that wears a skirt, so to speak. Heck, Tori probably thought that he’d flirt with a bear if it was wearing one of those ballet skirts. Lance: Allow me to introduce the judges’ panel, who will be deciding tonight’s winner. Up first, this lovely lady is known by many as the “Ice Mistress!” She resides in the Orange Islands and like myself is also a member of the illustrious Elite Four! Give a big hand for Lorelei everyone! Lorelei happily waves to the crowd. Not too many people were noticing though. They were too busy staring at her big chest. Especially Brock from off stage. Lorelei: It only takes a little jiggling to amuse me. Brock would’ve fainted on the spot, if he wasn’t scheduled to go on first, that is. He had hearts in his eyes as he eye examined Lorelei’s figure from head to toe. Brock: I wonder if she’s available... Tori: Well, don’t look at me. You’re the one who lives out here in the Pokéworld. Lance: Our second judge resides from Pewter City. He is the current gym leader there. Anyone looking to earn a Boulder Badge, see him after the show! But don’t expect him to go easy on you! Here’s Flint! Flint gets up and bows to the crowd. But then his back starts to act up, so he promptly sits back down, rubbing his back repeatedly to make the swelling go away. Brock: (cringes) Ouch. Tori: That must’ve hurt. Flint: Only rock solid acts will score high. (cringes in pain when he hears another snap) Ouch! Lance: Are you okay, Flint? Flint: I’m fine! Just give a minute. After a few seconds, Flint works out the kinks and is feeling better than ever. Flint: Ha! I told you I’m fine! The crowd claps with approval, relieved that the old man is okay. Lance: Finally, our third judge comes from more than halfway around the world! She’s from Canada, folks! But this young lady isn’t here for a vacation. Oh no... she’s helping us out tonight in our competition. She’s the girl you can’t get mad at ‘cause she’s so sweet... Star Otaku! Star blushes with embarrassment as she gets up and waves to the crowd. Not the introduction she was looking for, but she’ll take it. Star: I’m glad to be here! Thank you! I promise to be fair in choosing a winner! Off stage, Brock’s eyes looked like they were going to fall out of their sockets. He wanted to talk to Star, and he wanted to talk to her now, even if he gets disqualified for doing so. Brock: (blushes) Wow, she’s cute! I wonder if she’s available too. Tori: I heard she’s taken already. Brock: (comes out of his trance) By whom? Tori: Beats me. I’m not the type of person who digs into everyone’s private life. Izzy: (jumping in) Besides, she’s not your type. And long distance relationships don’t work out, either. Brock: (pushing Izzy back) Who asked you? (turning back towards Star) Star... I need you. Tori: (sweatdrops) Remind me to never take you to my high school. Izzy: (CC) Brock, I don’t know what you’re doing, but I’m on to you. I have no idea what you see with this Star chick, but I’m going to find out. Lance: Now that the judges have been introduced, let the competition begin! The crowd cheers once again, eager to get the show started. Lance: Representing the green team, these two individuals are going to do a little infomercial / love hunting show for us! Those of you who are sensitive to laughter may want to leave now... here’s ‘Blind Date,’ performed by Brock and Gary. Lance steps offstage, carrying the microphone, as Brock and Gary begin their act. It starts with the two of them dressed in tuxedos, preparing for a blind date, on opposite sides of the stage. After a minute of checking themselves, Brock walks over towards Gary’s side of the stage. He rings a conveniently placed whistle that’s set up several feet away from Gary. Gary goes over and opens a pretend door. Brock: Hello, is this Jerri’s house? Gary: Jerri? Sorry, you must have the wrong house? Wait... by any chance are you Brak? Brock: (getting angry) That’s Brock! Gary: Right, Brock. What did I say? I’m Gary. Brock: Gary? Gary sounds like Jerri. Do you think you and your sister are alike? Gary: I don’t have a sister! Brock: But the dating service said they hooked me up with someone named Jerri and she lives at this house! Gary: I found it weird that the service told me my date was Brock, a guy. Brock: You don’t mean... Gary: It couldn’t... Brock and Gary: (screaming like Urkel) Aaaaaaaahhhh! The crowd laughs hysterically as Brock and Gary head to the front of the stage. Brock: Guys, has this ever happened to you? Gary: I know it’s happened once too many for me. Brock: Well, there’s only one way to make sure your blind date’s a swell date! Brock and Gary: (together) Introducing the ‘Spiky Brothers Dating Service!’ The crowd laughs again. Gary: We guarantee that a guy will get hooked up with a girl and a girl will get hooked up with a guy! Brock: And guys, if you get a girl that you don’t like, just call me. I’ll take her! The crowd laughs again. A few laughs can be heard from backstage as well. Ash: (CC) Wow! I didn’t know Brock could actually put his flirting to good use! And to see Gary out there embarrassing himself is an added bonus! As their act comes to an end, Brock and Gary bow and run off stage. Lance: That was great, wasn’t it folks? Let’s see what we’ve got next... Tenchi, representing the blue team, comes out and begins showing off his daily Juraian training methods. It takes a few minutes to get set up, but once everything’s in place, Tenchi puts on quite a show. His balance is extraordinary, as he bounces from one small log to another, pounding a bigger one in the air with a temporary kendo stick. He offered someone to throw a few pebbles at him. With quick reflexes and good balance, he knocks each pebble away with his stick, drawing oohs and aahs from the crowd. At the end of the performance, he bows to the crowd and starts gathering materials up, as they crowd applauds him. Li and Tori are next for the green team, but it’s going to be tough for them... especially after what Tenchi did. Both of them are dressed in dojo fighting uniforms, which they managed to borrow from a former karate master who lived in town. They slowly studied each other as they began moving around the stage. Eventually, they got into a fight. They were throwing punch after punch and kick after kick. Some hits were landing, others were not. But they pulled off some spectacular moves that no one was expecting. Eventually, they get to point where they are both breathing heavily after bruising and battering each other. Seeing as their ten minutes were practically up, they bow towards each other with respect. They begin to walk off the stage... but before they do, Tori produces a small four by eight inch piece of wood, which Li quickly jump kicks into, breaking the board into several pieces. The crowd cheers wildly as the two bow once again. They didn’t know if they beat Tenchi’s act, but they certainly tried. Ash and Tai from the blue team come out, doing one of those ‘Pokémon vs. Digimon’ arguments. And they were having a good time doing it too. At one point, the two of them pull out sock puppets... Ash pulling a Pikachu one out, while Tai pulls out an Agumon one out. They then mock fight, having their sock puppets attack each other. The crowd laughs as the duo then throws the sock puppets off before beginning a little scuffle of their own. After that was done, they decided to take it easy and do a couple of impressions of their friends. Among the notables... Ash: (acting like Brock, runs over to Star) Oh please, won’t you go out with me? Star: (as the crowd laughs) Give me a break. She then swats Ash-Brock away as the crowd continues to laugh. Tai: (imitating Mimi) Oh! These shoes do not go with this pink dress! And this dress does not go with my pink gloves! And these gloves do not go with my pink hat! And this hat’s too big for my head! The crowd is laughing so hard right now that some of them literally fall out of their seats. After a few good impressions though, Ash and Tai call it quits as they thank the crowd and head off stage. Ash: I came here to show off! Tai: You’ve been great! Thanks! TK: (meeting them off stage) You know, you shouldn’t make fun of your little sister. Tai: Why not? I made fun of your big brother. TK: That’s different! Matt, representing the green team, then comes on stage with his guitar and a stool. He sits down and gets ready to perform a song. Matt: Usually, I’d take an opportunity like this to play a song from my band. I’m a member of the Teenage Wolves. We play every other Friday night in the Odaiba district of downtown Tokyo... check the newspaper for exact places and times. Back on topic though, I heard this song the other day that really interested me. I’d like to sing it for you tonight. It’s called “Outside,” by Aaron Lewis and Fred Durst. Matt starts playing his guitar. The crowd watches with intent as Matt begins singing. Matt: (singing slowly) And you bring me to my knees All this time that I kept begging please All the times that I felt insecure And I leave my burdens at the door The girls in the crowd scream as Matt heads into the chorus. Matt: (singing) I'm on the outside I'm looking in I can see through you See your true colors Inside you’re ugly Ugly like me I can see through you See to the real you As Matt continues through the song, the crowd is hooked on every word and strum of the guitar. The girls were screaming his name, while the guys applauded his talents. But when Matt hit the most dramatic part of the song, that’s when the crowd really got excited. Matt: (singing with feeling) All the times that I cried All this wastin It's all inside And I feel all this pain Stuffed it down It's back again And I lie here in bed All alone I can’t help what I feel Tomorrow will be okay Matt goes into the final chorus. After completing it, he stands up and bows as he gets a standing ovation from the crowd and from the judges. Matt: This song is dedicated to all of you who are lonely tonight. Thank you. Matt heads off the stage as the cheers and chants continue for several minutes. After awhile, Lance manages to calm everyone down. Meanwhile, something was happening backstage... Tai: That’s not fair! Matt: Hey, what can I say? I’m good. Tai: (snaps his fingers) Dang. (turns to TK, Ken, Cody, and Davis) This better be good, guys! TK: No problem! We’ll beat my brother! Back on stage, Lance introduces the next act. Lance: Our next group represents the blue team. They may be too young to be considered a full-fledged boy band, but the way things are going, it won’t matter here. These guys are 11 years old, with the exception of their youngest, who’s only eight! Here’s *NMON! TK, Ken, Cody, and Davis come out, dressed in boy band garb. Ken places a boombox next to the judges stand before joining the others at center stage. Star, closest to the boombox, gets a nod from Ken to start the music. “Pop” begins playing, and the guys go into their dancing routine. TK: (singing) I’m sick and tired of hearing all these people talk about What’s the deal with this pop life and when is it gonna fade out? The routine continues, but with mixed reactions after the last act. Although the girls are screaming once again, the guys aren’t happy with this dancing trio. As the song gets into the dance interlude, the guys take their places and begin to match the original *NSYNC nearly move for move. But at one point, something goes terribly wrong. As Davis quick steps his way up to the front, he trips over his feet, twists around in a weird way, and then rolls a few feet until his off the stage and down on the concrete amphitheater floor. Star immediately stops the song as the Lance, as well as his teammates run down to check on Davis. Lance: Doctor! Is there a doctor in the house? Davis: (favoring his right ankle in pain) Unnnggghhhh! Tai: Davis, are you alright? Davis: (screams) Aaaahhhhhh! My ankle, my ankle! The crowd is dead silent as Lance, Tai, and the others keep silent. After a few minutes, a siren can be heard in the background. Several medical personnel make their way towards the stage with a stretcher in hand. Tai worries when he sees this sight. He didn’t want to see Davis go out this way, whether he agreed with him liking his sister or not. He felt like he was helpless... Tai had no idea how to help. * * * * * * * * * * As the paramedics taped up Davis’s right ankle and placed him on a stretcher, both teams, the judges’ panel, and the crowd watches anxiously. Davis, although still in pain, gives everyone a thumbs up as the paramedics carry him away. Tai: (CC) This is the second time that Davis has been hurt. First was the go kart incident two weeks ago, and now this. I wonder if he’s cut out for this type of stuff. TK: (CC) I’m feeling genuinely sorry for Davis. Sure, he may be a jerk who’s always after Kari, but never in my wildest dreams would I want something like this to happen. As the ambulance zooms off to the nearby hospital, everyone tries to get back to their normal places, in an attempt to continue the show. Lance: Our hearts and prayers go out to that young man... whoever he is. TK: We’d like to finish our act. Lance: (nods) Go ahead then. Ken tells Star to rewind the CD to the beginning of the dance interlude. The remaining trio then goes through the rest of the song. Afterwards, they get a nice, steady stream of applause from the crowd. Ken, Cody, and TK stepped out, not one bit happy that they had to finish the act without Davis. Cody: Poor Davis. Ken: He had his heart set on this and look what happened! Tai: (putting his hands on their shoulders) Don’t worry! Davis will pull through this. I know he will. The show continued on. Izzy (green team) gave a presentation on the proper maintenance of a computer. That didn’t earn him too many marks. Tracey (blue team) didn’t do too well either: the crowd was not interested in him drawing Pokémon or pretty girls, despite the fact that he drew both really well. That left the final act for the green team. Joe and Richie come out, ready to perform. Richie starts by pulling three small foam rubber balls and begins juggling them. Joe, on the opposite side of the stage, throws to him a small rock. Richie adds that to the mix. Joe then returns with a regulation size bowling pin. The crowd gasps, knowing that Richie won’t catch this one. Joe throws it, and Richie barely grabs it. He struggles for a couple seconds to get back on rhythm as Joe grabs a Pokéball... one that’s twice as large as a normal one. As Richie finally gets on track, Joe throws the Pokéball to him. As the Pokéball reaches him, Richie notices that the Pokéball has eyes! It must be a Voltorb! Richie quickly gets the Voltorb into the rotation and struggles to get the six objects he is currently juggling under control. He finds this very hard to do as he stumbles one way, then the other. Suddenly, Voltorb begins to light up as if it was about to self destruct. Sadly enough, it was. Richie catches two balls in his right hand, the third ball and the rock in his left, the bowling pin in his mouth, and then steps back to kick the Voltorb high into the air. The Voltorb explodes about ten feet into the air. As it explodes, white clouds of smoke come out of it. The smoke amazingly forms into the words ‘Joe and Richie!’ The crowd applauds with force as the two performers take a bow. Lance then gets on stage. Lance: Wow, we’ve had some great acts tonight, huh? Anyway, our judges will now go backstage to make their decision on which team will win tonight’s challenge. We’ll be back in fifteen, folks, so don’t go anywhere! While everyone is getting up for intermission, the judges are quickly reviewing their scores. Brock comes out from backstage and approaches the female judges. He starts with Lorelei, the Elite Four member, who is already at work scoring the acts. Brock: Excuse me Lorelei, but I couldn’t help but recognize your radiant beauty shine from across the stage. If you give Gary and I a ten, I’ll take you out on the best night of your life tonight! Just you, me, and a candlelight dinner! What do you think? Lorelei: (without looking up from her score sheet) I don’t date Pokémon trainers. Brock: But I’m more than just a Pokémon trainer. I’m a Kanto Gym Leader! Lorelei: (still not looking up) Oh really? Brock nods approvingly. Lorelei: (still at work, yep) Once you become an Elite Four member, then maybe I’ll consider it. Brock: (grabs Lorelei’s right hand, causing the pencil to fall out of it) You will? Oh joy! I promise to keep you in my heart until that day, my love! Lorelei: (pries her hand from Brock’s) Just pick my pencil up from the floor and get away, before I decide to deduct a point from your score! Brock quickly complies, kneels down to retrieve the pencil, hands it back to Lorelei, then runs off. He searches further backstage, passing his father, who is also deep in concentration at scoring the acts. He finally locates Star, who has picked a spot alone, just outside her dressing room. Brock steps up to the shy authoress, who's just pouring over her score sheet. Brock: I was wondering, is there anything I could do to help bring our score up a little bit? Maybe I could take someone as sweet as you out for dinner... With quick reflexes, Star whips out her lunch bag is whipped out and smacks him with it, sending him flying backstage. She goes back to reading her sheet, as if nothing happened. Star: No bribing of the judges. Brock dejectedly walks back to the others. But this time, his father speaks up as Brock passes him. Flint: Son, I thought I told you that there was to be no bribing. Brock: But dad, I didn’t bribe you! Flint: But Lorelei and Star are judges, under the same abiding rules and regulations as judges that I am. Besides, I’m sure your team will rack up enough points to win. Brock: You really think so? Flint: We’ll just have to wait and see. Now run along to your team. I have to finish this before Lance gets back here. Just as he says that, Lorelei and Lance come walking towards them. Brock runs off as Flint joins the duo. They then head further backstage to locate Star and discuss how the final scores will be tabulated. Exactly fifteen minutes later, Lance and the judges are back in position. The two teams are then called on stage to hear the final results. The audience applauds their efforts. Lance: Now, before the judges reveal their scores, let me remind both the teams and the audience how the team scores are calculated. Each judge takes the top two scoring acts from each team and adds them up. Then the judges take the total score from each team and combine their numbers to get the final numbers. The judges will now reveal their scores. Let’s start with Lorelei, the Elite Four member. Lorelei: Well, Lance, I have to say that this little talent show has been very interesting. There were some good acts and there were some not so good ones. I ended up giving two tens, one to each team. Lance: Which acts were those, Lorelei? Lorelei: They were ‘Pokémon vs. Digimon’ from the blue team, which was probably the funniest act tonight, and that riveting performance of ‘Outside’ for the green team. It seems that, in my opinion, the star power was behind the two team captains. In my opinion as well, I think that they possess an equal share of talents tonight, so I scored the teams as a tie: 18 - 18. Lorelei raises both the blue and the green colored boards up. Both teams are surprised at the result, but are happy nevertheless. Lance: Looks like this is going to be closer than I thought. Flint, your scores? Flint: Well, I also gave that ‘Pokémon vs. Digimon’ act a ten... the only one I had. When everything’s said and done, that was enough to put the blue team on top. I scored it 19 - 17, in favor of the blue team. Flint raises the blue board into the air. The blue team claps in agreement, while the green team begins to worry. Lance: Two point lead for the blue team... Star Otaku, our guest from Canada will render the final decision. The pressure’s on Star... which team won this? The crowd begins to cheer for which team they liked the most as Star announces her decision. Star: I’ll be honest with you and the teams, Lance. I really don’t like fighting that much, so I may have been slightly bias against the two fighting acts. But since they were on opposite teams, they practically cancel each other. I have to agree with Lorelei and Flint on one aspect, though. The comedy act that Ash and Tai put on definitely deserved a ten, and I gave them one. Ash and Tai high five each other once again, as the crowd cheers Star’s choice. Star: Does that mean that the blue team wins? Audience? The audience is split almost 50 - 50, half of them cheering for blue, the other half for green. Star watches the audience for a few seconds before quickly raising the blue board into the air. Star: (as the blue team begins to celebrate) 18 - 17, in favor of the blue team! The blue team raises their captain, Tai, into the air, and start chanting his name. The green team then comes over and starts shaking hands with their opponents. After Tai is let down, he joins in the festivities. Tai and Matt have a private speech at center stage about what happened earlier, but then they forgive each other by giving each other a high five, followed by a hug. Lance: That makes the final score 55 - 52, with the blue team winning the competition! The Pokémon League and the Elite Four thank you all for coming out tonight for this great show. All of the judges, participants, and the great Professor Oak will be available after the show to take your autographs and questions! Have a good night and drive home safely! After the congratulations are over, the blue team hoists Tai into the air once again. But he’s not alone. Tai motions for Ash to join him. The blue team splits into two groups, as three members hold Tai up, while the other two hold Ash up. The two groups then come together, as Ash and Tai join hands and raise them into the sky, putting the icing on the cake to their tremendous victory. Tai: (CC) This victory is dedicated to Davis! Man, I hope you pull through this! Ash: (CC) I would have never thought that we’d win. But we did, so I’m happy! Matt: (CC) We did our best. Personally, I thought all of our acts were good. I don’t know how they were scoring this, but I believe that we should’ve won this thing. After signing autographs for a little bit, Professor Oak decided that they should stay in the city for the night. So, while Professor Oak went to find hotel rooms, the boys took the two vans and made their way to the hospital. Once there, they asked the receptionist if they could see Davis. She stated that it was past visiting hours, but there was a special exception because he had just been moved there. She would only allow three people to go back there, especially since there was one person already back there. The boys wondered who it could be... it wasn’t the professor, because he was still off trying to find an empty hotel. Tai, TK, and Izzy, the three guys who knew Davis the best, decide to go back. The receptionist told them to the 1400 wing... which was in the south wing of the fourth floor. There, they found the nurses’ desk, where they were directed to room 1410. Once there, they got a pleasant (or unpleasant) surprise. The Nurse Joy from Viridian City was in there, talking to Davis and making sure he was alright. Davis had a temporary cast over his right foot and ankle, but otherwise looked okay. He seemed relaxed as he and Joy were deep into a conversation over what had happened since they last saw each other. Tai had thought that Joy told him that there was nothing going on between her and Davis. Could she have been lying? Tai: (coughs as he steps into the room) Ahem. TK and Izzy follow Tai in and are just as surprised as Tai was at the scene. Davis: Hey guys! What’s up? Tai: (points to Joy) What is she doing here? Davis: I invited her. Tai: You invited her? TK: Man Davis, are you that desperate? Izzy: I thought you weren’t really in love with Nurse Joy? Davis: (shouts) There’s nothing between us, I tell ya! Joy: Look, if you want to know, he called me because he wanted someone who could reassure him that he would be okay. And since you guys were still over at your little competition, I had to fill that role. (glaring at Tai) No romantic implications at all! Tai: Okay, I get the message! Davis: So, who won? TK: We did Davis! Davis: That’s awesome! I’m sure Kari will like me for sure! TK: (sweatdrops) Again with Kari? Davis: I’m sure she’ll be sympathetic for me after hearing about this. TK: (rolls his eyes) Oh brother. Tai, Izzy, and Nurse Joy laugh as TK and Davis begin one of their little arguments once again. Izzy: (CC) TK and Davis, I don’t know what you’re doing, but I’m on to you. I have no idea what you see with this Kari chick, but I’m going to find out. TK: (CC, at the same time as Izzy) Izzy, will you stop it with the ‘I want to find out why you’re dating that girl’ click? Izzy: (CC) Hey! I’m trying to make this show interesting! TK: (CC) It’s not the proper way to learn dating tips, you know. Izzy: (CC) Dating tips? What makes you think I’m searching for dating tips? TK: (CC) Oh, I’m not telling you that. If you think you’re such a great detective, you’ll figure it out for yourself. Izzy: (CC) TK, what are you talking about? I’d better go figure this out before TK drives me crazy. I’m outta here. End Episode Fourteen Oak: (VO) Next time, on Roomies... Tracey: I totally choked on stage. I couldn’t believe it myself. Oak: (VO) In the aftermath of the sixth physical challenge, the boys evaluate themselves... Tenchi: (CC) We have to make a good impression. We’ve only got twelve more days to go. Tori: This is getting kinda boring. We need a chance to do some legal sabotage or something. Izzy: I wouldn’t exactly call sabotage legal. Oak: (VO) Cody decides that a personal confession is not enough... Cody: Being only eight, I don’t understand many of the emotions that some of the other boys are going through. It’s also hard to get along with anyone because of how young I am. People think I’m not mature enough for a competition like this. Oak: (VO) Izzy continues to question Tai’s connection to gym leader Whitney... Izzy: Tai can’t be asking for this girl’s hand in marriage... can he? Tai: What goes on between Whitney and I is our business, okay? Oak: (VO) A prize challenge tears friends apart... Ash: You tripped me! Richie: I did not trip you! Oak: (VO) And if that wasn’t enough, enter two show rejects from Digimon into the mix... Catherine: It is, how you say, magnifique! Michael: Isn’t she the greatest? Tenchi: I’ve never seen two guys so desperate to get a girl’s attention. (glances at Brock) Except for you, Brock. Oak: (VO) An action-packed episode that you don’t want to miss!
